Historical Perspectives: 'The Watch & The War' C A Short Film Tracing The History Of A 1938 Panerai Radiomir That Belonged To An American Intelligence Officer
Watches tell the time, but they sometimes also tell us history. Filmmaker Benedict Campbell's short film "The Watch & The War" tells the story of Benedict Brucia, an American naval intelligence officer during World War II, and the origin of his very special watch – a 1938 Panerai Radiomir with a Rolex movement. As a young boy, Jim Brucia admired his uncle Ben's curious wristwatch. He ended up inheriting the watch in 1972, but never learned what his uncle did during the War. In 2007, Jim Brucia uncovered the history behind the Panerai watch, and in turn discovered what his late uncle did during WWII. 1 OF 1 Benedict Brucia In this short film, HODINKEE's own Benjamin Clymer joins Jim Brucia to explain the historical significance of this important watch. For more on the filmmakers, click here.
Audemars Piguet 44mm Hornback Straps?
Hi Everyone. Just wanted to see how many 44mm AP owners have hornback straps fitted to their watches? I've got the 44 SS on a rubber atm.. but I'm definitely looking to switch it up to some sort of leather. I've checked with the boutique here in Singapore.. they told me they've stopped production for hornbacks for 44s. And if they had any left in stock it would be over $1,000 Singapore dollars! That is just madness.Anyone has comments over the worth of the hornbacks for 44? Or any 3rd party leather makers who make great aftermarket hornbacks? I'm open to other leather... but I'm not sure which would look best. Or better yet... anyone with a nice 44mm Hornback they'd like to sell? Here's a pic for the day.
SMP - Gym Shots
Hello all,I'm a long time lurker--1st time photo poster. I wanted to share some photos of my knock around (an Omega SMP) in its natural environment (the gym).
Was 43mm SD red updated in 2018? And compares to updated 44mm DSSD ..
Question, I found myself looking at 43mm SD red vs the updated 44mm DSSD.I tried on the DSSD before but bracelet was my complain. But I have not tried on the 43mm red SD yet.I do wonder if the 43mm red SD was updated this year? And the new 44mm DSSD looks like it resolved my complain about the bracelet.I guess I would have to wait until the new 44mm DSSD is out to confirm. What do you guys think about the 43mm red SD vs the new 44mm DSSD as in portion on the wrist, wear comfort?
Looking for a certain strap
Hi All! My advance apologies if I've posted this in the wrong forum, looking for some help from all you sharp eyed Rolex fans!In looking for a leather strap for my GMT II Ceramic, I came across this picture online and was wondering if someone here knows exactly where to source this exact strap. Also, I'm considering purchasing a no-date ceramic Submariner. In your opinion, between the GMT II Ceramic and no-date Ceramic Sub, which looks better on a NATO strap and leather strap vs bracelet. Thanks!
