Hands-On with the New Oris Carl Brashear Limited Edition
Oris might not be the first watch manufacturer to introduce a dive watch in a bronze case, but the company certainly managed to link its first attempt at one to an important milestone in the history of diving: as its name indicates, the Oris Carl Brashear Limited Edition (Ref. 733 7720 3185) is dedicated to the first?African-American?to become a U.S. Navy Diver in 1954, and?U.S. Navy Master Diver in 1970, despite also having had to overcome an amputated left leg. (Cuba Gooding, Jr. played the role of Brashear in Men of Honor , a movie inspired by the Brashear’s life story). His motto “It’s not a sin to get knocked down; it’s a sin to stay down” can be found on the watch’s stainless steel caseback, whilst the bronze used for the case, crown and bezel pays tribute to the dive helmets used during his era. As with every bronze watch case, this one will develop a?vintage looking patina over time. The Oris Carl Brashear Limited Edition is based on the
UR-202 White Shark Highly Limited Watch From Urwerk
Here is their new "white shark" UR - 202 watch , based on the Hammerhead UR-203 shows that I discussed here. UR-202 and UR-203 watches are among my favorites in terms of design and utility of Urwerk. I believe that this shrink to say both grand, rod system all based on a model of "satellite" of Urwerk in the indication of the time system.
Las Vegas AD
Esteemed Gents,I'm looking to purchase my first AP, 15400 in particular. Since there are no AD's here in AZ (that I know of) the next stop would be Vegas. Does anyone have any experience with either of them? I'll be there next weekend so any advice you can give is appreciated.Jorge
Growing up a bit (new delivery, AP gold)
After having having used, almost exclusively, stainless steel dive watches for 20 years, the last 12 months I've started exploring a proper dress watch. At the same time, I feel that true dress watches such as ultra thins, too many complications etc are not really for me. I want something that is a bit simple, elegant and a tad sporty, at least a bit water proof to handle an unexpected dip in the water and one that is practical to use. I started looking at gold, e.g. some type of gold version of one of the Rolex watches I've been using for 15 years, but I find them often be a bit too yellow sometimes for my tastes and then I also really like the combo of gold on a leather strap, which further limited my Rolex choices. Before vacation a couple of weeks ago I had the chance to see a AP Royal Oak 15300OR at an AD for the first time and I was smitten by the design, appearance and comfort. It felt much more distinguished and mature than all the various divers I use, even the vintage ones. T
