Roger Smith "GREAT Britain" Watch Specially Made For Prime Minister David Cameron
One of our favorite English watchmakers Roger Smith (Roger W. Smith) just announced that he has completed a watch commissioned by the British government for Prime Minister David Cameron's Legacy to the 2012 Olympics. Called the GREAT Britain, this is the latest in Roger Smith's series of bespoke timepieces produced on a made-to-order basis. The watch was commissioned by Conrad Bird, the Prime Minister's Director of Communications in 2012. Why? It was part of the Prime Minister's 2012 Olympic Games Legacy. Is Roger Smith late in delivering the watch at the end of 2013? No, in fact he is probably a bit early.Roger Smith produces each watch by hand, by himself, in the most traditional of manners. He is THE protege of the famed English watchmaker George Daniels, and he lives and works on the Isle of Man located between the UK and Ireland. There is a several year waiting list for his watches and he produces two types of pieces. First are ones in his "Series" collection that are limited in p

To AD...or not to AD? Thoughts, opinions, recommendations please....
Dear all,Longtime lurker/sometimes poster over on the Rolex side. I have enjoyed reading and learning about PP from the various postings here. I have a birthday coming up and am in the market for the 5164a dual time Aquanaut. Happy #$% Birthday to me!I first saw this beautiful and functional timepiece at the PP boutique in NYC. So my question to you all is:Should I purchase this watch in person from a bricks and mortar AD? My wife and I like the idea of flying to NY for the day to pick it up, the added comfort of the FTF transaction, and knowledge that it is 100% legit...On the other hand, this watch can be had for significantly less from other grey market dealers. MSRP for this piece is about $35k USD and I have seen it online from some reputable grey marketers BNIB/papers for $30-31...as low as $28 on Chrono24 (but no idea about the dealer). What are the benefits to the AD route? Is there any other value the AD can add to the transaction? I am aware of the many pitfalls of g
Question about now discontinued Nautilus...
Hey,I'm a fairly new Patek owner and have been really enjoying this forum.A quick question as I'm unsure of which direction to take and would appreciate some insight:I own a 5726 white dial (absolutely love) and a 5205G. Love both watches and they have only wetted my long-suppressed appetite for more Patek. I'm especially enamored with the Nautilus, as it wears beautifully and just feels right. I planned on adding another Nautilus and I was going to try and source the classic 5711 blue dial. But I just got a very good deal on a new 5980 blue dial that is hard to pass up. Being that I already own a Nautilus with a complication, do you think its overkill to go with another complication, the 5980? Also, being that the model is now discontinued, should I anticipate an increase in value or was the 5980 not great seller in the first place? Bottom line, I could add to my collection with a 5980 new now, for a very appealing price, or have to wait months, perhaps even half a year from wh
