Ulysse Nardin Watch Manufacture: Where Technology Meets Pride
Patrik Hoffmann was given the position of Ulysse Nardin CEO after the brand's long standing CEO Rolf Schnyder sadly passed away in the spring of 2011. He recalls Rolf with extreme fondness, referring to how he treated him like a son in many ways, and how for long periods of time he would live at Rolf's Swiss home while Mr. Schnyder lived in Malaysia for long parts of the year. In many ways he was being bred to take over the historic brand that Rolf saved during the quartz crisis in the 1980s.Just a few weeks before his death I saw Rolf at Baselworld who offered a small speech on the future of Ulysse Nardin. He seemed energetic but those closest to him knew he had been not well for a while. Nevertheless, it was important for Rolf to share news on the brand's upcoming caliber UN-118 movement that would be placed in the brand's highest volume watches such as the Marine Chronometer. The UN-118 will contain technology that I believe is very important to the watch industry's future, and its s
Which type of AP owner do you belong to?
Some people buy to collect, some buy to wear, some just cant stop buying! Which type of owner are you??For myself, I belong to the type where I just cant bear to wear the new watches, I wore the 2nd hand models I bought.. Its sickening, to leave new release models as safe queen.. But I just cant bear to wear to run down its value. Cant stop looking at watches too!
Omega Speedmaster possibly next purchase ?
I'm seriously considering making an Omega my next watch purchase and have been looking at a couple Speedmaster's I really like...... I am just wondering if anybody has any experience or opinion on these models..omegawatches/gents/sp...-date/32228000.omegawatches/gents/sp...ional/35725000I don't have an Omega AD near by so I would have to buy online or contact an AD for pricing. if anyone can recommend an online site or AD that would be good to deal with please let me know. Can you normally get a discount on an Omega ? All my other watches I managed to get a discount of between 20-30% and just wondering if its the case with Omega.Have a great weekend ! Dave
SMP +/- seconds have changed since purchase
I purchased my SMP 7 months ago and used time.is to track the +/- seconds over the course of 60 days. The SMP ran at a solid +2. I decided to track it again recently and it's now running at a consistent -4. Nothing has changed in the usage of the watch: wind it a couple times a month, wear it everyday, rest it face up at night. I've heard watches have a breaking in period but I really thought my SMP was going to stick at +2 since it ran that way for months. I can tolerate -4 for now, but I was really surprised it deviated 6 seconds from when I first tracked it. I'll be curious to see what it's doing when I track it a few months from now. My question is...anyone else have that dramatic of a change in +/- after purchasing a new watch? Or is this normal? I have no frame of reference since this is the first time I've ever tracked the time on my mechanical watches. Thanks in advance for any comments to help clarify this for me.
Aqua Terra Golf: My Next Omega Grail
I was browsing the Omega website today and stumbled upon what appears to be the watch of my (near-term) dreams: Aqua Terra Golf.I've always liked the design of the Aqua Terra, but the 39mm case didn't really appeal to me. I'm probably quite behind the times, but 41.5mm Aqua Terra + green accents is a winner in my eyes. Well then again, green is just my favorite color. (Thus I think the Sub LV is beautiful too.)Just have to save up and hope one pops up on the secondary market eventually!Anyone know of other watches with relatively normal (black/white) faces with green accents?
