Introducing the Steinhart Ocean One Vintage Dual Time
It's been quite some time since we've written about Steinhart, the German brand known for producing some of the most affordable Swiss-made watches on the market. But a few days ago, the company sent out a press release that caught our collective attention. Today, we have the pleasure of introducing Steinhart's latest addition to their Ocean line, the Ocean One?Vintage Dual Time.As you may have guessed, this isn't an original design from the brand. Rather, the Ocean One Vintage Dual Time is Steinhart's take on the legendary PanAm Rolex GMT, a watch first developed by Rolex in 1954 for Pan American World Airways. Pan Am was the first airline to offer commercial international service, and as the lore goes, the airline worked with Rolex to create a watch that could meet the needs of the company's transatlantic pilots. Pan Am's executives were apparently quite jealous of the pilots and their new toys, so Juan Trippe, the head of Pan Am at the time, decided to squelch the discord by commissi
Your Official HODINKEE Leap Day Perpetual Calendar Buyer's Guide
Today, as you surely know, is leap day – February 29th. You know this because that one guy in your life who spent his life's savings on a perpetual calendar can't stop talking about it. The perpetual calendar is an amazing complication – able to account for not only the varying lengths of your average 12 months – but also for leap years. For The Classicist 1 OF 7 1. Patek Philippe 5140 – Patek Philippe invented the serially produced perpetual calendar wristwatch, so it's no mistake that the heir apparent to the most beautiful watches ever be included in this list. The 5140 is a round, 38 mm perpetual calendar based on the legendary 240Q movement. While pu
Patek stainless steel type?
I read an article Patek Philippe Nautilus vs Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. by Fratello Watches. The article states that the stainless steel used for the Nautilus and Royal Oak is a scratch magnet. Also the article states that different kind of stainless steel is being used compared to other brand's sports watches...What type of stainless steel does Patek use? 316L? I assume they aren't using 904L, which Rolex uses. Why doesn't Patek use the higher quality stainless steel, especially in a sports watch that is supposed to take a beating?
233 no longer has a dome?
In this thread: https://.rolexforums/showpost...0&postcount=29If this is true this is most unwelcome. I hope the poster is mistaken.Maybe this ends up like the Rolex Seadweller will have a gloss dial thread a while ago, but we have a witness.
