the dial is refinished... what about the hands?
Would you buy a perpetual that wasn't displayed on dial?
Curious to see what folks think. Often hear of admiration for craftsmanship and engineering in our watches, some of which we cannot even see without cracking open the watch. Would people still be interested in a perpetual calendar that would keep the date properly set without any user intervention (as in a standard mechanical date/time watch) in February, or 30 month days, but without all the display information on the dial? E.g. a 5227 appearance but the perpetual functionality built inside for a watch that otherwise appears no different.Or an annual calendar such as the 5146 or 5205 that displays the day/month/date but would never need to be touched even in February, because the perpetual functionality is taking care of it?The perpetual info such as leap year would instead be displayed on the back for setting purposes, etc.Guess what I am asking is - is it truly the function that is desired? Is it good enough that it's there without being obvious? Or is part of it wanting the display
resale value : Patek versus Lange
2 great brand, I prefer Patek but Lange is great tooBUT when looking at the resale value Lange sucks big timeAlmost all their watches can be found at -40 till -50%.Almost every watch they make can be seen at the ADNo Lange has a waiting list and you never see premiumsIn fact , Do they have 1 single 'hot' watch ?Than look at Patek100% the oppositeHUGE waiting lists on a lot of modelsBIG premiumsAnd at auctions they are always the number one, by far !Somebody has an explenation ?
Talking with the watchmaker at my AD - PREDICTION!
You heard it here first! Without a doubt! It's for sure!!!! That... someone I know thinks something will happen at basel 2018!!!!!! Ahem... speaking with a knowledgeable watchmaker at my AD, also a great guy, he and I were talking and he suggest/think/predicts that the 3186 will be replaced in 2018. He said the movement has been around a while, and with all the new improvements in the 3200 series (like my 3235 DJ41 ) Rolex will update the GMT out of the 3100 in to 32... something. Heck, I'll predict it's the 3274! Anyway, it kind of makes sense, the 3186 has been powering the GMTs and older Explorers for many years... Time for an upgrade?
Maybe I am not being clear
I know nothing about my watch. I am asking where can I go online and what is there on the watch that I can plug in to determine what type of watch I have and maybe it's age. Just frustrated because I don't know where to begin. It was a gift from 18 yrs ago and I don't know where to look it up. Thank you.
