Watches NEWS
Introducing the Portsea by Melbourne Watch Co.
When last we looked at Melbourne Watch Co., I was pleasantly impressed by their first watch, the Flinders. It was well executed, refined, had a few surprising details and, most importantly, was enjoyable to wear. Beyond all else, it made me make a mental note that Melbourne Watch Co had some design chops, some clever ideas and clearly was a brand to watch. Today, we're excited to talk about their next watch, the Portsea, which is currently kicking ass over on Kickstarter, having quickly blown through the initial goal and one stretch goal.It seems as though Marine Chronometer inspired watches are making a bit of a comeback. Sure, several brands have seemingly always offered classic interpretations, but we've seen a handful recently release ones, both affordable and not, that take the look, restyle it, making watches that are new designs. The Portsea is one of these watches, and to date is the most unique and perhaps the best looking. Named after a seaside locale on the Mornington Penins
The Value Proposition: The Amazing, Incredible, And Semi-Affordable, Atmos Clock From Jaeger-LeCoultre
As the current new guy at HODINKEE, it gives me no small pleasure to introduce – I should say, re-introduce – an old reader favorite: The Value Proposition. It’s been on hiatus for some time but you’ve asked us repeatedly to bring it back, and we listened. In Value Proposition we bring you a look at some of horology’s biggest and best bang-for-the-buck – timepieces that, in a world where price increases have for over a decade shut more and more out of enjoying mechanical horology, really over deliver in the value department. In general this means things in the under $10,000 category but at the same time, you might see us occasionally cover something like, say, a $15,000 minute repeater that sounds as nice as a $300,000 chiming complication, which seems unlikely, but hey, if it exists, you’ll read about it here first.Today, let’s talk about the Atmos clock, from Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Atmos is nothing more nor less than one of the absolute c
Speedy style bracelet on new SMP-C...
Well for those who were curious to whether the 'old' style speedy bracelet would fit the new SMP-C the answer is a resounding yes . No machining needed at all and you can use the SMP-C spring bars (which I believe are the same as the 'old' SMP ones)...I am really digging this combo . This is actually the fully brushed (sides and middle links) speedy bracelet form the GMT. It looks less busy than the bond, is lighter (then the new SMP-C bond at least) and I also like the fact that it tapers slightly to 18mm at the clasp. The only downside it uses friction pins rather than screws. A couple crappy HTC photos but at least you get the idea ...
PAM & iPhone 5s
What camera app do you use to take the best shots of your PAM?
36mm is actually... quite perfect.
Hey guys,*Long story alert*Anyways I just wanted to share with you my experience with my 114270 explorer. I have been wearing the watch for 4 months now. I have tried Aqua terra 38.5mm, 41mm, I have Seiko SARB, SKX, vintage Omega 600 and the explorer is the most comfortable watch I have ever put on my wrist by far! Especially now in the winter when I dress with long sleeves, I actually feel that I forgot to wear a watch and check on my cuff to make sure I have the watch on. I find myself reaching for the Explorer even when my other watches should deliver it better. Sometimes I think about selling all of my other watches because I don't use them. I have heard people say that this watch is so versatile you can wear it with suit or you can take it exploring mountains skiing. The truth is, its true, I take the watch to my sports activities (I am very active young man). I also find myself wearing the watch when dressing formally and leaving my very dressy gold vintage Omega inside the watch
