F.P. Journe Chronometre Souverain Watch Available On James List
I could really use a little 'Journe' in my life, but the privilege don't come cheap. There is no per se "entry-level" F.P. Journe watch - that isn't exactly what the brand is about. You are supposed to earn up to a F.P. Journe - after you've toiled away earned and learning. Francois Paul doesn't want his watches on your wrist until you can fully appreciate them, and that takes some time being a watch nerd. However, if you are looking for a relatively reasonable way to get in the highly desirable brand, this Chronometre Souverain is a good "budget bet" compared to their $600,000 plus steel minute repeater watch. For about $25,000 - $30,000, you can get a gold or platinum watch with a beautiful refined design, wearer-focused feature set, and a stunning in-house made movement.Being 40mm wide, this is your classic moderately sized watch with a thin profile and a super legible face. As the movement is manually wound, you have a handy power reserve indicator on the dial (56 hours), and a subs
IN THE SHOP: A Rad Tudor Sub, A Beautiful Mulco Chrono, And A Rolex Daytona 6263
It’s Tuesday and you know what that means – more watches in the HODINKEE Shop! This week we have a slightly more tailored group of watches for you, including a couple of cool chronos, like the Mulco Antimagnetique and a gorgeous Rolex Daytona reference 6263. A 1950s Mulco Antimagnetique Chronograph 1 OF 3 Mulco isn't a brand you hear of often, but this watch will have everyone talking about it. Here we have the Mulco Antimagnetique Chronograph, a gorgeous yet sturdy steel chronograph with triple scale; this watch will not disappoint. The dial has some spotting from age, but it is beautifully well-balanced, and the color is to die for. Overall, just a really great chrono that you won't want to miss. Click here for full details. Bring a Loupe: Completely Fake Patek Philippe 1463 In Steel On eBay For Over $25,000 C Here's How To Tell It's A Fake
Fake watches are scary and plentiful, great original watches are beautiful but scarce – this is why we keep you up to speed in our weekly edition of Bring A Loupe. However, a weekly column isn't enough to flag all the offenders and we see countless bad watches sell each week. Sometimes, however, we see one that is so offensive, and in this case, so expensive, that we just have to dedicate an entire story to it here. A watch listed right here on eBay is supposed to be a rare Patek Philippe. It is, of course, not at all a Patek Philippe, but that doesn't prevent it from having a price of over $18,000 right now, with two more days to go.I will not only expose the parts that make this fake the worst buy you could ever make, but also the general attitude that I recommend having when hunting for a watch. My motto: only the paranoid make good collectors. When It Is Too Good To Be True Finding an amazing watch for a bargain is like looking for water in the desert: th
70's Breitling Chrono
Hey Guys...I normally spend time in the Rolex section, but I got drawn over here today on a thread about the Emergency...So I thought I would post some info about my 70's Chrono...My Mom gave this one to my Dad around 1975. He was flying a lot, so she wanted to get him a nice watch for timing his check-points (way before the day of GPS ) He was also a farmer, so he abused the watch daily, but it mechanically held up incredibly well...I started flying in 1986, so he passed in on to me...soon thereafter, I almost destroyed it in a motorcycle crash, when I was hit by a car and slid 90ft down the paved highway (I didn't measure it out, the Kentucky State Trooper did). Fortunately the case stayed off the pavement but a hole was eaten completely through the crystal during the slide. I had the crystal replaced and wore the watch daily for about 10 years. While I was living in Birmingham, Alabama, I met a serious watch tinkerer (bought a Red Sub from him) and he offered to restore it for me -
