Frdrique Constant Launches 3 New Runabouts
In 2009 Frdrique Constant launched the limited edition Runabout series designed to celebrate the legendary Runabout yachts of the roaring 20s, which can still be seen today on Lake Geneva. For 2010, Frdrique Constant is bringing out 3 new special edition Runabout watches in limited editions of 1888 pieces for each series in honor of the brand's continued involvement with and support of the annual Hlice Classique yacht meet, organized by the Societ Nautique de Genve. The star of the new series is the 43mm Runabout Manufacture Power Reserve with manufacture power reserve movement. The case is hand-polished and the dial is decorated with Clous de Paris' guilloche in the center. The power reserve indicator at 12 0’clock informs the owner how much of the available 42 hours remains. The case back features a marine-inspired engraved propeller and a porthole through which the movement can be viewed. Two new automatic models complete the Runabout series. These models are availa
Buying Watches In Minneapolis, Minnesota: Wixon Jewelers
Welcome back to an watches-dealer original series, where we discuss important stores that sell watches all over the world. Each store we profile has an interesting story to tell about where they operate and who they sell to. Whether you buy watches from brick and mortar retailers or prefer to buy watches online, these are the stores that help shape our watch culture around the globe. There is a long list of stores to cover, but if there is a retail location in your favorite city that we simply can't miss, let us know in the comments below. Here is a map of stores we have covered so far.Where to buy watches in Minneapolis, Minnesota?A lot of jewelry and watch stores take great pride in being multi-generational and having a history that stretches back nearly a century (or more, in some cases). A counter-point to that is Wixon Jewelers who are quite proud to be a first generation store, thank you very much. But they are far from being "new kids on the block." They have been selling watche
Affordable Vintage: Hamilton Valjoux 7730 Chronographs
These vintage Swiss-made chronographs from a storied American brand combine great looks and quality mechanics at an affordable price.2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the Heuer Carrera, an iconic racing chronograph from a classic Swiss brand. Although the Carrera's looks have never really gone out of style, anniversary celebrations throughout the year have rekindled collectors' interest in early versions of the watch, and record prices are being paid for the best examples. While it might be hard for the average collector to justify spending a month's salary or more on an original Heuer Carrera, the interesting details of the watch industry in the late 60s and early 70s make it possible for collectors on almost any budget to afford a Heuer-made chronographwith another brand's name on it. Today, we'll look at a pair of such watches from American watch company Hamilton.HistoryIn 1966, Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA purchased the Swiss watch company Buren. For the next three
Vintage Connie PP or Seamaster?
I am on the fence: I have my eye on a really nice original 501 cal (19 J)Seamaster (1955) and a 1963 Connie Pie Pan (cal 561). I really like the style of the Seamaster (thick lugs, 2-toned silver dial with applied numerals on the 3,6,9 and 12), but like the pedigree of the Connie and its 561 movement. The Connie is quite nice too: silver dial with gold indices and hands. The Connie is $375 more (if the same price, I'd take the Connie hands down) and I can't make up my mind. Thoughts?
I attached a cyclops on my daytona
Why you ask? Well because its so rolex. Eventhough I cant see anything if I am looking at the dial at any angle other than 90 degrees. I like it because it so rolex. Eventhough it destroys the symmetry of the dial. Im glad its there. Its so rolex. I can see the minute counter much better now. Im glad rolex glues on a second piece of sapphire on another piece of sapphire. Its very rolex of them.
