New York Exhibit Celebrates 40 Years of Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
Audemars Piguet’s iconic sports watch with the octagonal bezel, the Royal Oak, turns 40 this year, and the Swiss watch firm plans to celebrate the milestone in style, kicking off a touring exhibit of 100 rare Audemars Piguet watches, set against an artistic multimedia presentation showcasing the brand and its history, with an opening engagement this week at New York’s Park Avenue Armory. Click “Read more” for photos from the exhibit. In 1972, with the quartz revolution gaining momentum, Audemars Piguet caused a stir in the watch world when it introduced to the market a luxury sports watch with an ultra-thin mechanical movement and an unconventional, octagonal steel case, at a price point that at the time was unthinkable for any watch not made of a precious metal. Despite the naysayers at the time, the Royal Oak was not only successful, it influenced the look of many other sports watches that followed it and has become the mainstay of the Audemars Piguet collectio
Diver, Black Themes or BLNR?
Thinking about adding one of these three as a true daily wearer to compliment a PP and 44 FC that I have. For the Black Themes and Diver the pricing is fairly close on the pre-owned market, both look good on a bracelet (already have one from previous 42mm AP pieces that I have since moved). The BLNR is completely different both in price and style, but is a contender as I tried one on at my AD recently and actually liked it. This one I would purchase new.And although I realize that this is the AP sub-forum, I value the thoughts of the members here. You have all cost my bank account dearly, but that's a different story Any thoughts on one over the others are appreciated?TIA !
A Buffet of Lobsters & Nice Watches
Enjoyed a great dinner with my family and a great friend Free-flow of lobsters and other delicious food kept us busy the whole night, all with the company of some fine watches and soulful topics... e.g. What's common between lobster and AP? The answer: They are both... devine, best of class, great in all variety and sizes, expensive, and most importantly... they make people happy, and want more!Enjoy your weekend!
INCOMING!!! New Speedy Sapphire Sandwich AND Mitsukoshi Conversion
Hi guys,I bought a new speedy pro sapphire sandwich a month or two ago purely to convert to the Mitsukoshi dial. Well, I managed to source the dial and hands, I dropped the watch off yesterday to have the dial installed, and just picked it up. I must say, the watch is stunning, my favorite iteration of the Speedmaster!!First, Speedy Pro coming out of the box:On the wrist:And the Mitsukoshi dial on the watch as I walk down 6th Ave after picking it up!!
Omega in "Killing Kennedy"
My copy of this months National Geographic just arrived this morning and I was having a flick through it while I had lunch. On the inside back cover I noticed an advert for a new National Geographic docu-drama called Killing Kennedy staring Rob Lowe. In the ad he appears to be wearing the square Omega that Kennedy made famous...I can't tell whether it's original or the re-issue but at least they're making the effort. After the Argo debacle, with Ben Affleck wearing a Rolex Deep Sea throughout despite the movie being set in the seventies, it's nice to see producers looking at watches and trying to get it right!
