Close-Up: The Boutique-Exclusive Ulysse Nardin Blue Toro
The Ulysse Nardin Blue Toro watch a perpetual calendar with dual-time function powered by an in-house movement is the definition of “hard-to-get:” The watch (Ref. 326-01LE) is limited to 99 pieces and available exclusively in Ulysse Nardin boutiques. Scroll down for more info and photos. The Ulysse Nardin Blue Toro limited edition counts among its features a bezel and pushers made of ceramic and skeletonized hands designed to prevent easy reading of the dial’s calendar functions. There is also a sapphire exhibition caseback that shows off the movement, Caliber UN-32, which is COSC-certified as a chronometer, and its solid 22k-gold rotor. It is a rare example of a perpetual calendar that adjusts forward and backward in seconds over the quick corrector position of a single crown, even in the year 2100. The wearer can adjust Its hour hand instantly to a new local time using pushers (marked “+” and “-“) without taking the watch off the wrist or i
Panerai’s New Luminor Has Antimagnetic Case
Panerai‘s newest Luminor Submersible model debuts a new technological innovation for the brand: a special case construction that ensures a high level of resistance to the magnetic fields, omnipresent in everyday life, that can disrupt or even stop a watch’s movement. The Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Amagnetic 3 Days Automatic Titanio-47 mm (referred to more succinctly as the PAM00389) has a specially designed internal case made of soft iron, which encloses and isolates the movement, forming a Faraday cage that diverts the flow of magnetic fields. This construction provides an impressive degree of magnetic resistance: 40,000 A/m (amperes per meter), a limit more than eight times greater than the value specified by international standards. The soft iron case is immediately beneath the dial, which is made of the same material. (As many fans of IWC know, that brand also uses a type of soft iron inner-case construction in some of its Pilot watches.)Our watches are exposed to
Ploprof Returns Better Than Ever
The name makes me think of a bad guy in a James Bond film. I hear Sean Connery saying, The game is over, Ploprof. The name of course belongs to an icon of the 1970s C a dive watch created by Omega for the wrists of PLOngeurs PROFessionals, French for professional divers. To quote Omega's press materials, it was one of the most rugged, robust and seaworthy divers' watches ever manufactured. The newly reborn Ploprof 1200M maintains the original's instantly-recognizable design while incorporating Omega's Co-Axial technology. 1200M refers to 1200 meters or 4000 feet, the answer to How deep can it go? In this image, an original Ploprof from the 1970s is on top, and the new model is below…The crown sits behind a protective buffer. Time and date adjustments are made by unscrewing the crown to release the buffer. The hour hand can be adjusted independently for changing time zones, springing forward, and falling back. Turning the bezel requires that the owner depress the orange-anod
Now Writing About Watches For Haute Living Magazine
I am proud to announce that I am now the watch editor for the prestigious luxury lifestyle magazine, Haute Living. The magazine is unique for having a series of regional editions which include Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Miami. There is of course, also a national edition of the magazine. I will writing about a few watches in issue. Those articles will be republished on Haute Living's blog located here. I hope to bring a more interesting and conversational tone to the discussion of luxury watches in "print" arena, with a focus on topics for dedicated watch lovers, and those fresh to the passion.
