Will The IsoSpring Steal Away The Tick-Tick-Tick Of Your Wrist Watch?
It seems that 2014 is the year of announcements for revolutionizing the wrist watch as we know it. Some of these claims will take time to prove (read: smartwatches), but others do seem to be truly reinventing bits and pieces of the movements that make up the mechanical wonders that we know and love. We brought you word of the first change here?(with the Genequand system concerning?the balance wheel), and today we have word of a replacement for the venerable escapement C the IsoSpring. As you may likely?be aware, the ticking noise you hear your watch making comes from the interaction of the escapement, more specifically, the repeated contact between the pallet fork and the escape wheel. Every time the balance wheel changes direction, the whole thing comes to a (temporary) stop, and then starts back up again once the balance wheel is in motion. Obviously, this stopping and starting is not the most efficient use of the energy stored in the barrel. One estimate of the best efficiency we see
HourTime Show Watch Podcast Episode 143: Bluetooth Watch Blues
John discusses a Girard-Perregaux Chrono Hawk watch he is reviewing and I discuss a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms that I am reviewing. Which is the better watch? Tuttonero - PAM 438
With the help of a great trf member I have just traded to get this watch in my collection. I have owned the 441 before and loved it, but the 438 is a totally different animal with amazing wrist presence. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks of this model as it's rarely discussed.I'll add in hand pics over the weekend! Dan
VERSUS: Submariners Vintage and Modern
Fifth edition of the VERSUS post/picture. What is VERSUS? Well, I thought it would be fun to compare two watches (and only those two watches) and discuss pros/cons by outlining the differences and getting folks' ideas/thoughts/opinions on TRF. We got folks here that have been collecting and studying these things for decades all the way to those who are just starting to venture into the crazy world of Rolex (and everyone in between). Therefore, it would be fun and educational! For this edition, we have a vintage v. modern showdown with the iconic Submariner. A Submariner 5513 and a Submariner 114060. Kind of a grandson/granfather if you will, :)Some obvious things:Modern v. vintageMatte dial v. glossy dialTritium v.
