Tudor Watches To Return To US Market In 2013
For the last 3-4 years, we've been speculating that Rolex (who owns Tudor) would be keen to return the Tudor sub-brand to the United States market where it has been absent for a long time. Rolex itself has dominated the US, likely fearing that the lower-priced Tudor brand would act as a competitor. With Rolex owning at least 25% of the luxury watch market, it was in their best interest to not fix what wasn't broken. However, over the last few years, Tudor watches have been increasingly different from those of Rolex. While Tudor watches are produced alongside Rolex timepieces, they use ETA-sourced Swiss watch movements versus movements made in-house at Rolex. It appears as though the time has come where Rolex feels that Tudor can live with its higher-priced brethren in the important US market.A few months ago sources at Rolex seemed to unofficially suggest that Tudor was coming back. First there was increased media attention in the US when it came to working with the watch media, and ot
Montblanc Limited Edition Star Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph
Press release - dedicated to the inventor of the first "writer time" for the first of its own first-calibre, Montblanc has created a chronograph of historic proportions, the name of the inventor of the chronograph: Nicolas Rieussec, who, in 1821, developed a watch with rotating dials in which an ink marker attached to the fixed index wrote the downtime. For the first time, this has allowed the time finishing of individual horses at horse of the time. The invention was considered as so ingenious that it gave the chronograph its name: "chronos" for the time and "graphein" to "writing". Technique of Rieussec of two rotating disks has inspired the new Montblanc Star Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph, and this has been integrated in a unique masterpiece of chronographic watchmaking with barrels of binoculars and a 72 hours power reserve.
Debating on the 5140 or 5327
Hi everyone I am new to the forum. I am thinking about buying a Patek at my local store. I am in love with the 5140P-017 that was released at Baselwold 2016. My problem is that I am not sure if I should wait for the platinum 5327 or to get the 5140. Does anyone know how the Patek cycle works? If a platinum version is releasing this year I would probably wait to see how it looks. I'm looking to purchase ASAP. So any feedback would really help! This post has been a little more than a week in the making.... I recently acquired my someday watch and frankly have been through the gambit of emotions since then. My first 'real' timepiece was a Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5065 that I acquired in 1999 at the ripe old age of 30. This was my first exposure to Patek Philippe and I was just smitten by the watch - with its see-through caseback and funky dial with matching tropical strap. Purchasing the watch from an AD, I started receiving the Patek Philippe Magazine and determined that my someday watch would be a complication from Patek. Over the past couple of years, I acquired a Rolex GMT II (fantastically robust timepiece) and a JLC Grand Reverso Ultra Thin Duoface Bleu (a classic design with two faces that can be set independently). Several months ago, I decided it was time to acquire a perpetual calendar, so I looked seriously at the new JLC MUT perpetual and the JLC Master 8 Day perpetual. Both are incredible watches and outstanding va
Outrageous service at watch dealer today.
So the crystal on my 16233 is crooked for whatever reason, and in order to save money I decide to go to a jeweler/watchmaker chain in my city. I ask the service if it was possible for them to straighten the crystal so I hand her the watch. It is a 16233 with a Preik caseback installed. First thing she tells me This watch is a fake. I literally told her 4 times that its an original and she still didn't believe me and even went as far as telling me that they would have to keep the watch and demolish it if it was indeed a fake. In the end she ended up telling me to go to the AD and have it straightened there as they don't work on rolexes anyways and send them to the AD. After all that I wasn't going to leave the watch there anyways. Do you have any similar or funny stories to tell? I was really surprised to be treated that way. Must be because im 20 years old and she couldn't believe I would own a real Rolex. Little does she know I come from a family of watchmakers and watch enthusiasts.
