Celebrity Watches by Vincent Daveau: Tracking Trendsetters Through Time
Newly released Celebrity Watches traces well-known and obscure connections between leading watch brands and their famous owners. From Napoleon to Steve McQueen and Einstein to Shaq, the author, a Paris-based watch journalist, chronicles the intersections between brand history and celebrity. Each of the book's 23 chapters focuses on a watch brand, with big time and smaller players represented. Rolex, Omega, Cartier, and Patek Philippe are chronicled alongside fashion-oriented brands like Boucheron, Dior, and Chanel. Each chapter presents a compact brand history, photos and descriptions of representative watches, and images of the celebrities who wear them. The book's 160 pages contain 200 color and 50 black and white photographs including portraits, studio shots, publicity stills and paparazzi snaps.Celebrity Watches profiles movie and rock stars, sportsmen and women, politicians, and other VIPs including historical figures such as Queen Elizabeth and Marie Antoinette, celebrities from b
Awards Keep Coming for Lange Zeitwerk
The members at TimeZone have voted the Lange Zeitwerk “Watch of the Year”. About 800 watch enthusiasts took part in the poll. This is the Zeitwerk’s ninth award since May, 2009. Last week, Lange’s latest iconic model took second prize in the category Watches over 25,000 Euro in Germany's Goldene Unruh (Golden Balance) awards given by WatchTime’s sister publication Uhren Magazin in cooperation with Germany’s Focus magazine. More than 10,000 people cast votes in that competition. Lange’s prize-winning Zeitwerk
At The Maurice Lacroix Watch Manufacture
A few months ago I got to visit the Maurice Lacroix watch manufacture in Saignelgier, Switzerland. No, I still can't pronounce the name of the city, but the building itself was surprisingly modern and well-designed. While relatively new, Maurice Lacroix as a brand is also pretty new in the scheme of other Swiss watches in the area. The brand was founded in 1975 with ties to the area going back to the early 1960s I believe. What you need to know about Maurice Lacroix is that they are among the few Swiss watch brands that aim to have an independent spirit, but also a sense of affordability to their products. It is true that they have strived to push themselves upmarket in the last few years, but at heart they still want to be the Swiss watch brands for everybody.A picture in this article shows a pile of movements cased in plastic housings. I snapped that picture 'as is' in the manufacture showing a large amount of ETA movements sitting like candy in a large bin. The majority of Maurice L
Finally found Dad's 168.005 Constellation
I'm typically lurking over on the Rolex Vintage side; but, wanted to share a picture of my father's long lost Omega Constellation ref. 168.005 with a caliber 564 under the hood. Just got back from a cleaning and oiling and it's keeping extremely accurate time as one should expect from one of Omega's workhorse chronometer movements. On the way back from Vietnam by way of Hong Kong in mid 1967 my father bought this Constellation and a stainless steel Seamaster Chronograph with a cal. 321 which I have posted on this Forum previously and wear periodically. The Constellation has been hidden away for quite a long time and just recently surfaced. I just sourced The NOS 9 row BOR gold plated bracelet from Ted's Vintage Watches and while the gold isn't a perfect match; I'm liking the original look a lot. This is my only all gold piece and probably won't get a lot of wrist time but the sentimental value makes it a keeper.I understand these Connie Piepans are routinely faked or frankened; but as fa
