The Value Proposition: The Amazing, Incredible, And Semi-Affordable, Atmos Clock From Jaeger-LeCoultre
As the current new guy at HODINKEE, it gives me no small pleasure to introduce – I should say, re-introduce – an old reader favorite: The Value Proposition. It’s been on hiatus for some time but you’ve asked us repeatedly to bring it back, and we listened. In Value Proposition we bring you a look at some of horology’s biggest and best bang-for-the-buck – timepieces that, in a world where price increases have for over a decade shut more and more out of enjoying mechanical horology, really over deliver in the value department. In general this means things in the under $10,000 category but at the same time, you might see us occasionally cover something like, say, a $15,000 minute repeater that sounds as nice as a $300,000 chiming complication, which seems unlikely, but hey, if it exists, you’ll read about it here first.Today, let’s talk about the Atmos clock, from Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Atmos is nothing more nor less than one of the absolute c
Breitling Bracelets
I recently purchased a Navitimer with strap. It's not in my hands yet (supposed to ship Monday) but I know I will want a bracelet. I like the standard navitimer bracelet but don't care if it's some other breitling bracelet. I just was ease of wear and comfort. I have slightly over 7.5 in wrists and the navitimer I have coming has 22mm lug width. Any input on what I should look for and wear to look would be great, oh and how much I should expect to pay. It doesn't have to be breitling either though it would be a preference. Thanks in advance and I look forward to posting a bit in the Breitling section once I get this (my first) breitling.
Cheapest Breitling????
Dumb question, Im looking to give a Breitling watch as a gift whats the cheapest model can I buy? I rather stay below 3K if its possible. Any Model ideas? ? Thanks
Easter Magic: Incoming!
After uttering the words nautilus aren't for me many times, I suddenly developed an insatiable itch for wanting to own THE nautilus. Once a watch nut gets an idea in their head, as many of you know, there is only one way to scratch that itch: INCOMINGIMG_0168.jpgWhile for years I preferred the 15202 over the 5711 as I found the 15202 to be the original Genta and loved the lack of a seconds hand, legendary caliber and the bracelet on it, my initial impressions of the 5711 1/A are very good. The watch is incredibly comfortable and the dial is really magical how it changes in the light: probably the only correct answer is to own both! FullSizeRender (2).jpgLook at those ears!FullSizeRender.jpgUntil KarlS ships me his 5711P, we will make due with these two blue dials.IMG_0176.jpgThanks to various TRF members and friends with whom I've chatted offline (cc: goog53, JorgeCCW, racerdj and subtona)! Have a great weekend and Easter holiday.IMG_0177.jpg
Mystery white dial
Lots of posts on the magic of the blue dial Nautilus, and how the light transforms it. Let me put in a good word for the white dial as well, it really does change a lot as well depending on the ligthing. Sometimes it looks pure white, other times more creamy. And last night, sitting and enjoying a cognac, it looks almost pure steely.
