Breguet Charity Auction Is Underway
As time winds down to the New Year, Breguet is preparing to auction a masterpiece: the Breguet Classique 5157. The auction benefits the New York Philharmonic's School Partnership Program. Bidding began at 12:01 a.m. EST yesterday and closes close at midnight January 15th, 2011. The watch is being auctioned through the eBay Giving Works site. The 18-carat yellow gold timepiece is the same model as the one worn by New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert. It is a 38mm, extra-thin Classique wristwatch featuring a self-winding movement and a silvered gold dial hand-engraved on a rose engine. It also has a sapphire caseback and is water-resistant up to 30m.Breguet, is expanding its cultural ties in the U.S. The brand worked with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2007, and most recently sponsored the New York Philharmonic’s Opening Night Gala. Breguet will also support tonight’s all-Tchaikovsky New Year's Eve concert. The New York Philharmonic's School Partnership Program p
What is the fuss about swimming with a Speedy Pro?
I swim with my Speedy Pro all the time. Often taking it to the pool or the beach. Why do so many people suggest you can't swim with a speedy? I've never had an issue.
Fr. John's chocolate Speedy
Today I had the good fortune to meet Fr. John for lunch at a gourmet restaurant in Athens called Allen's. This is a new version of the old one which closed in 2003. A great burger joint.Anyway, I had ask that he bring his new chocolate Speedy for me to have a look. I sure am sorry he brought it! It is simply stunning! I had no idea it would be so beautiful. The polished movement is a work of art. WOW! I only had my pocket camera and the photos do not do it justice.I also wanted to show you how Fr. John stays fit and healthy! Cheers, Bill P.
Omega 007 Bond Seamaster back after 6 week hiatus!
I went to Tourneau in early June to have them replace my pins and barrels since they randomly would fall out. This has been my daily watch for the past 5 years. It took them 4 weeks to get the parts in from Omega, and then they sent it off to their Las Vegas location to be repaired. Well, yesterday I was reunited after a 6 week hiatus. The repair was only $25. Not bad. Here are some quick pics that I took today. Enjoy!
Will the 5140-G/J/R become a collectible ?
I was a frequent visitor to TRF (and the PP Boutique ! ) last year when I bought myself several PP's, including a 5140-G (white dial) as an every day wearer. I have recently been re-thinking my collection and decided to sell off a few of the discontinued classics to make way for some alternatives.. This has brought me back to TRF after an absence, which has led to the discovery that my trusty 5140-G is no longer in production. I thought that the 5140 was a real classic which would stay around rather longer. Does anyone know why the gold models were discontinued (leaving only the 5140P), and what has replaced them ?Oddly, a quick search threw up a post dated only a couple of weeks ago on another forum, in which someone was agonising between buying a new 5140-G and -J from an AD. I thought stocks were pretty limited even when in production, so it seems strange to see AD's still selling them. I wonder whether it is now attracting a discount (or perhaps a premium ?) once discontinued.
