Guide To Buying Watches Online Versus In Retail Stores
It may seem like a no-brainer. Buy a watch on the Internet, save a few bucks, it shows up at your door in a few days and you're good to go! Right??Well, in reality it's not quite that simple or cut-and-dried. The decision to buy on-line versus in a retail location is one that should be carefully considered. Unless of course, you're buying a commodity watch or don't care about the little details.Today, I'm going to talk about how to make sure your purchase is the most satisfying one possible and provide some guidance and tips in areas that you may not have even considered. This article should also be read by on-line watch retailers, there are some good tips for you too.Wow! Has the Internet ever opened up some new possibilities for watch aficionados! You can now peruse and purchase watches from all over the world. Brands and models that you never would have had access to are now just a PayPal authorization away. And, some of these cool designs can be thousands of dollars less than their
Linde Werdelin Oktopus 1,111 Meter Dive Watch
Another new watch for Linde Werdelin in 2009 is the Oktopus. Building on the Biformeter watch case and theme, the Oktopus is a beefed up version of the models in the already sharp looking Linde Werdelin watch line. This is also the first dedicated diver's watch for the quickly growing brand featuring a rotating diver's bezel and integrated helium escape valve. There is also the little matter of the 1,111 meters of water resistance, that is over 3,300 feet! Almost a mile underwater at this point you are simply adding a wow factor to the watch. Even though you'll never go that deep, it does comment strongly on the secure construction of the watch, as well as the thickness of the metals and sapphire crystal used in its construction. The original Biformeter case profile was surprisingly thin. I discussed the watch at length in my review here. The Oktopus case is thicker by 1.5mm making it 13.5mm high (still not bad). The case is 46mm wide and 49mm tall. That sounds large, but it is real
Hesalite scratch removal -- really bad
I'm either (1) SUPER hard on watch crystals, or (2) this Hesalite scratches awfully easily. With more than a dozen daily wearers, and with most of my watch time spend in an office, I'm very surprised at how bad this crystal looks. I know the pics make it look really bad due to the angle of the light. But please believe me: It looks that bad at pretty-much any angle. If I replace it with a new Hesalite, it'll only end up looking this bad again in a year. So, which should I do? -- give it to my omega boutique for a Sapphire replacement (if there is such a thing)? Or just keep it, & continuously use some kind of home remedy? THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE!
Little annoyed
My pam111 p which I purchased in dec seems to be gaining too much time circa 1 min a day !!!!Spoken to panerai who have stated it's under warranty so they can rectify this. however, they will require the watch for approx 6 weeks which seems like a very long time ...Since I've had my PAM, my Rolex has had no wrist time at all!!! Looks like that's going to change for a couple months .....Anyone else had this issue with their PAM?
cleaning / polishing advice
Need some advice here, My 1968 stainless steel 5513 only comes out at the weekends and I noticed that its looking dull, it came with a polishing cloth but I'm uncertain of what its impregnated with and I'm reluctant to take metal polish or other cleaning materials to it in fear of causing damage, so whats the heads up? is there a safe wipe over cloth to make it brilliant again with causing damage to it? please advise cheers H
