Swatch D'Schwizer Watch Epitomizes Swiss Humor
For a country so known for conservatism, the Swatch D'Schwizer timepiece is a rare public display of Swiss humor. Page 1 of the 2012 Swatch Group annual investor report is humorously decorated with satirical versions of each of the 26 Swiss cantonal coat of arms (you can see the official Switzerland canton coat of arms list here on Wikipedia). These clever and actually funny satirical images have found themselves on a new limited edition Swatch timepiece called the D'Schwizer.Given the insular nature of Swiss humor, the Swatch D'Schizer is a limited edition (not sure how many pieces) piece exclusively for the Swiss market. Though thanks to the wonder that is the internet, you can probably find them outside of Switzerland as well. Swiss humor has never translated very well for me. They mostly share it among themselves, and us Americans who travel there like to comment on that element of their culture. Though I do find the clever and fun nature of the humor contained in these mock
Introducing the Breitling Transocean Chronograph 1915, A Mono-Pusher Column Wheel Chrono With New In
While we're die-hard vintage Breitling fans, we can recognize good development when we see it. A couple of months ago we reported on the Breitling Transocean Chronograph. That model hankered for its roots and introduced a vintage theme and a simpler two-register layout. The new Transocean Chronograph?1915 takes that development?a step further by introducing a new dial design, new case and, most importantly, a new manufacture caliber.?The Transocean 1915 starts with a 43 mm by?14.6 mm case in polished stainless steel. Instead of applied indexes like its predecessor, the Transocean 1915 has printed Arabic numerals. Two registers, arabic numerals and a push piece at 2 o'clock-many?HODINKEE readers should be thinking "montbrillant" (hence 1915, before Breitling introduced the second pusher in the '30s). 2 OF 3 Naturally, we could do without the date, but the narrow window doesn't seem to distract from the dial as much as date windows can. Moreover, maybe you're a pilot or som
ROO Ti with a GP Strap
I just received my new GP strap earlier today, and wanted to show some photos of how it looks on the Titanium ROO. It wears really comfortably, and gives it a different look from the grey rubber strap.
Buying first PAM and looking for counsel
Rolex guy who is finding himself falling in love with Panerai of late. Soooo many models/iterations and would love some advice. Here are a few criteria I'm looking to get in my first PAM. Thickness Complaints - A Brief Thought
It seems to me that every time a Tudor BlackBay is brought up in a post or released a lot of people ask How thick is it? Which is always followed by massive complaints that the in house BB is simply too thick. So what gives?First, we first have to start with the reality. Tudor set themselves up for this one as the original ETA BB was a skinny 12.7 MM (by dive watch standards for those manufactured by Rolex or Tudor). When the in house version came out and due to a bigger movement the thickness shot up to just under 15 MM at 14.8 MM, or by 15%! Now you do get a longer power reserve in trade-off. Some argue there should be no trade off at all. I do no necessarily disagree but I did not design the watch. The complaints and statements of if it wasn't so thick have not stopped since. Valid points. But is the thickness issue really a valid enough point to be the subject of nearly every Tudor BB post on the forum? The SubC is 12.7 MM thick, I don't think this includes the cyclops. The SD4k
