Vianney Halter Deep Space (9) Tourbillon Watch Is Trekkie's Wet Dream
Vianney Halter?gained famed for his unorthodox design and arguable creation of the high-end?steampunk watch market. A known science fiction junkie, Halter's mixed reputation in the watch industry ranges from positive concerning his vision, to negative concerning his follow-through in "completing" his work. After many years of relative silence (about seven), Halter returns with a new watch called the Deep Space Tourbillon that is a less than subtle homage to his love of Star Trek.Specifically, the Deep Space Tourbillon watch is meant to look much like the Deep Space 9 space station from the Star Trek series with the same name. Halter even borrowed the name from the fictional vessel for his watch, and the station's large curved spires show up in the watch as hour and minute hands. The center part of Deep Space 9 is here produced as a triple axis tourbillon, and in all, the timepiece looks like a 1950's era UFO. For sure, the watch sums up Vianney as a person and as a watchmaker, but was
Newest of 2011 - Planet Ocean
After much debate, I decided to go with the 42.5 - I like the proportions of the dial better than the 45.5. I almost went 45, but aesthetically, I like this one. Something about the size of the minute markers to the negative space on the dial make me like the smaller dial better. And it fits better - who am I kidding. I also put them both next to a DateJust and the 45 made the DJ smaller than I had hoped - I still want a SS DJ, if you can't tell. And I like the matte dial - I always have. I like it better than the LM version, too.Let me know what you think...No unboxing - I don't have that kind of patience. And last - the wrist shot. You can see why I didn't go 45 - my wrists just can't do this one like a Panerai. Those fit - this at 45 didn't.Thanks for looking and thanks for all the earlier comments.Rob
Just me or are 26mm straps hard to find?
Hi all,I'm loving my Panerai 557 and swapping between the leather and rubber straps that it came with, as well as a cheapie two piece NATO in olive drab I bought. Now I'm looking to purchase a camo two piece and in the context of this search I'm realizing that very very folks make anything in 26mm. And moreover, those that do charge ridiculous prices. Are you guys encountering the same? Thoughts?
Companion watch for a Submariner ND
Good morning allApologies in advance for a rather open question but I think this is the best place to askBought the Sub a year ago - what a watch! Now my wife has offered to get me another watch for my 50th in about a years timeI am wondering what to get though. Price would be around the same as the Sub and used is also a possibilityThe only Rolex I could envisage I'd a DJ (tried BLNR and Ln GMT when bought Sub, not quite right unfortunately)I don't wear suits, mainly smart(ish) casual. Have best diver already so looking for some inspiration. Thanks for any suggestions
Etched Crown
Did Rolex stop etching the crown onto the crystal? Just got a new DJ 116200 from an AD, but no etched crown on glass.
