10 Interesting Facts About Marc Newson's Watch Design Work At Ikepod
Whether or not Apple decides to release an iWatch, iTime, iWhateversmartwatch in a few hours or a few months (UPDATE: They did. See the Apple Watch here), we know that the accomplished Australian industrial designer Marc Newson will more than likely be a big part of the design process of this upcoming and highly anticipated wearable computing device. A few days ago, I discussed the implications and virtues of Apple's decision to have Marc Newson join Jony Ive in designing products at the company. You cannot discuss Marc Newson and watches without talking at length about Ikepod.Ikepod is a luxury watch brand and it is technically still around, but it really isn't a big deal any longer - at least not like it was in the late 1990s and early 2000s. What happened? In addition to filing for bankruptcy in about 2003 and later being purchased by new investors, Marc Newson and Ikepod parted ways back in 2012.Even though the company has had its ups and downs from the start, the biggest asset of
Incoming: Omega Speedmaster Pro
Hi everyone,I wanted to thank all the enablers who gave me great advice about the Omega Speedmaster Pro. I eventually decided to pursue the 3570.50. All of you were correct: Its an amazing watch and I absolutely adore it. The AD was kind enough to give me some promotional supplemental material about the Speedmaster Pro and its given me a chance to talk to my kids about the historical significance of this watch (I'm trying to convert my two tots into WIS!... However, I suspect that they simply love pushing the chrono buttons.... sigh). It runs a bit fast (+6 sec/day) but does it take time to settle? As well, could anyone recommend stores in the Toronto that sell leather straps for the Speedmaster Pro? Are there certain brands/models that you would recommend?Again, thanks for all of the advice and insight about this special watch. Sorry for the crappy iphone pic. All the best.
OP 39 on NATO . . . didn't think I'd like it.
Recently sold my 116600 Sea-Dweller which put my OP 39 into the 24/7/365 slot. Previously, it was relegated to weekender/dress-up duty. I'd wear it when I just wanted something different and lighter or when I went to church or out on a date with my wife. The other night, bored and on a whim, I decided to try a NATO band on the watch. Didn't really think they would go together that well. To my surprise I like it!The simplicity and ruggedness of the NATO seems make the beauty of the polished OP 39 case pop out. Some will like, some won't. For me it's a nice change.
Rolex Boxes
Do Rolex boxes differ hugely?Model, age etc. Do the more expensive watches come in a fancier 'casket'?It would be nice to see the variationsTucking her up for the night.
hands getting stuck...
Hi folks,My 1946 Oyster Air King was recently rebuilt and ran great! (Thanks Tommy)A few months later, the innards were loose (likely suffered some vibration in transit back to me). A local shop tightened everything and tuned it up and it was good again. Now (6 months later), the second hand (in sub-second dial) is catching on the hour hand at about 6:40. I recorded a video, but can't post a link as I have not posted enough times in the forums...I am starting to think that I am not supposed to wear this thing daily...Do you wear your vintage Rolex daily?Thoughts?
