Audemars Piguet Celebrates its 135th Anniversary and Launches a New Royal Oak Offshore
On October 5, Audemars Piguet Japan held the brand’s 135th anniversary and new product launch party in the Choice! restaurant on the third floor of Tokyo’s prestigious Ark Mori building. The event was attended by 500 guests including VIPs, celebrities and media. The evening included the launch of a new Royal Oak Offshore limited edition. Mr. Go Mugino, Chief Executive Officer of Audemars Piguet Japan, introduced the evening's first “special guests”: brand founders Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet appeared in a hologram to greet attendees. At Baselworld 2010, Glash��tte Original will present their rose gold Pocket Watch No. 1 with quarter hour repetition in a limited edition of 25 pieces. A historical watch by Julius Assmann, a famous pioneer of the Glash��tte watchmaking industry, served as the model. The repeater first strikes the previous hours, and then in a higher tone, the number of quarter hours that have elapsed since the last full hour. The repeater is operated by means of a slide located at 6 o’clock. Moving the slide toward 9 o’clock winds the mainspring. At full wind, the striking mechanism is activated automatically. The progress of the striking mechanism is regulated by a centrifugal governor visible on the wheel train side. Arnold & Son TB88 "Inside Out" Watch
Now, here is an interesting new watch that I wasn't expecting from UK based Arnold & Son. The concept is that the movement is "inside out," well sort of. Basically what you see on the dial is typically what you would see on the rear of the watch. Arnold & Son isn't the first to offer a watch that applies this concept, but their new TB88 does that and has a few more tricks up its (exposed) sleeve."TB88" sounds like some super mutated version of tuberculosis. I don't want to contract TB88! There should have been a better name. TB actually stands for "True Beat," which is Arnold and Son's way of saying dead-beat seconds. This complication has been given a lot of names over the years. It refers to a seconds hand that ticks, but is part of a mechanical, not a quartz watch. Ticking seconds hands have been around for a long time, but since quartz watches came around people began to associate them with cheap timepieces. Please help identify this watch...
Good morning everyone,I walked by this jewelry store yesterday and saw this watch again. In June of 2009, I was starting my search for a watch and came across this one at the very same place. He started by saying he wanted $3500, but could sell it for $2000, then $1500, then finally $900. I of course passed, not feeling at all comfortable with their random pricing, plus I couldn't find any info on this watch. Anyone know anything about it? What would it be worth? He of course told me that he just got it in, and it would sell any day now, but about a year later not only does he have the same one, but has collected 4 more, which don't seem to be hot sellers either. The store is located in Rockefeller center. Thanks for the help.
