Jack Heuer, Father of the TAG Heuer Carrera: The WatchTime Q&A
In 1963, the Heuer watch company (today’s TAG Heuer) released the first Carrera, a chronograph inspired by auto racing, which went on to become an international icon. As TAG Heuer celebrates the Carrera’s 50th anniversary this year, WatchTime sits down for a candid interview with the man who created the Carrera, watch-industry living legend Jack Heuer. WT:???? This year marks the 50th anniversary of the TAG Heuer Carrera, the sports watch that you conceived 50 years ago. Did you think back then that it would become as iconic as it is today?JH:????? In all fairness, no, but when I entered the watch industry, one couldn’t foresee many of the fundamental changes that have happened to it in the years since. I would have never imagined, for example, that watches with Swiss-made movements would move into such a small niche only about three percent of the world market in units, in a market of 1.5 billion watches a year. This was unimaginable in my early years.WT:???? Since
HYT H2 Watch Teaser (Part 1)
No doubt there will be a part 2 and maybe 3 of the teasers that will lead up to the HYT release of their second watch, the H2. Last year, the "Hydromechanical Horologists" led up to the eventual release of the H1 timepiece by teasing us with bits and pieces. So here is the HYT Caliber 201 manually wound movement that will once again use liquid indicators to help show the time - and other complications. The HYT H1 was one of the most impressive watches of 2012, with its unique design, innovative liquid and bellows system, and relatively competitive price of around $45,000. The H2 will be a step up in price, complication, and prestige. For the H2, HYT worked with APRP's Giulio Papi to design the movement. Papi is one of today's best and most creative movement designers who is the brains behind a lot of what comes from Richard Mille, Audemars Piguet, and many more. What we can tell from the caliber 201 is that it will retain the double bellows system for the liquid, and probably indicate th
Used SuperOcean I picked up today!
Hey Guys -Thought I share a picture of a used SuperOcean I picked up.
Please talk me out of it.
This Speedy Pro Broadarrow Moonphase is one of my favorite watches to look at in my small collection. The only Chronograph I own, as well as the only moonphase. Problem is - I don't wear it. It's a manual wind, the date / moon are set with a pusher, so whenever the power reserve runs out, it becomes a task to get it up to date. Last time I used a chronograph function, I timed a hard-boiled egg for my daughter - other than that, I have no need for the function. I just love to look at it, as it is an absolutely stunning watch. Perfect size too, nice and thick. I just never wear it.... Such a shame. So, lately I've been thinking about letting it go, so it finds a good home and an owner who actually uses it. Am I nuts? This is the watch (not my pic)
Daytona C SS vs Sky Dweller SS
I've been admiring the new Sky Dwellers for sale here. They are interesting. I like the black dial --- not blue or white. But, I don't know what I would use that crazy looking dial in the middle of the face. How do you use that? It looks like a 24-hour dial. I've looked for threads on this and so far have not found anyone to explain it.But, I'm hot and heavy for a new Daytona SS --- 1116500LN. The Daytona sells on the gray market as quickly as it's offered. But, the Sky Dweller is at the moment appears to be in a buyer's market. Prices are not as outrageous --- given that the MSRP is actually higher than the Daytona. Which would you rather have? Why? I guess one answer will be that the Sky Dweller is available right now for a decent price --- I've seen $16,300 for BNIB.My wife would kill me if I were to buy 2 new Rolexes. I can hardly remember to keep one watch wound --- but keeping up with 2 would be crazy if both were going to be worn alternately depending on mood or dre
