Rolex Modernizes the Day-Date with a New Size and Caliber
Rolex Day-Date 40 white gold Ref. 228239OverviewOriginally introduced in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date was the last flagship model Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf created, and it is considered to be his ultimate achievement. Also known as the “President’s watch,” the Day-Date has a rich heritage of being worn by presidents, CEOs, visionaries and important leaders around the world. Some might call it the ultimate symbol of prestige, achievement, and success.HistoryIn 1945, Rolex revolutionized calendar legibility with its Datejust, the first wristwatch chronometer to indicate the date in a window at 3 o’clock. The Cyclops lens, invented by Rolex, would be added in 1953 to further facilitate reading of the date. In 1956, with the Day-Date, Wilsdorf perfected the modern calendar by adding the day of the week, spelled out in full, in a window at 12 o’clock on the dial.Rolex Day-Date 40 Everose gold Ref. 228235For the first time on a wristwatch, the day was shown in ful
Talking Watches: With Ral de Molina
There's a good chance many of you haven't heard of Raúl de Molina, that is unless you're a regular Univision viewer. His daily television show, El Gordo y la Flaca, is the most popular show on the network, and actually sees more viewers than competing shows on NBC, CBS, ABC, and Fox, combined. Nicknamed "El Gordo," Molina was born in Cuba but left for Spain when he was 10 years old after his father was imprisoned. He started his career in south Florida as a news photographer, eventually taking a beat that would bring him to the worst parts of Miami in the '70s and '80s – sleeping by the telephone with a bulletproof vest nearby in case he got a call. Molina would go on to become a high-paid celebrity photographer, which then led to appearances on afternoon talk shows. After producers realized how viewers responded to the charms "El Gordo," he was quickly given a daily TV show alongside Gloria Estefan's sister, Lilli. Raúl d
The Harry Winston Opus Eleven: An Early Contender For The Best Of Basel 2011 (Live Video)
The Harry Winston Opus Eleven - $230,000If you know modern haute horology, you know the Harry Winston Opus series of watches.? The line has helped launched several of today's most famous names including Felix Baumgartner from Urwerk, Vianney Halter, Stephen Forsey, and of course, the man who launched the concept in the first place, Maximilian Bsser for MB&F.But without Max the line is doing just fine, and today we got our first peek at the Opus Eleven, what just might be the coolest thing Basel World 2011 has to offer.? We can promise you, you've never seen anything like it.Working with Denis Giguet of MCT Watches (you know, the guy behind the Sequential One), Opus Eleven displays only the hour and minutes, but to get to this simple output requires an incredible amount of input - a complicated equation for a simple result. Here's how:"The three overlapping cylinders on three levels are configured to deconstruct time. The main circle is the hour's domain, flanked by two pavilions. One
Omega buying advice
Hi guys,I am new to the forum although have watched from a distance! SicI am in the UK, and am going to NYC in September and I am hoping to get a deal on a Speedy 3573.50.00 (if I can find one) or a Dark Side of The Moon. Any recommendations for ADs that would be able to help? Thanks.
Omega Speedmaster 3220
Hi Omega enthusiasts, I am extremely interested in this watch here: .omegawatches/gents/sp...-date/32205000, 40 mm will be perfect for my semi- small wrist. Here is the problem, this Speedmaster has an Omega Calibre 3606, which I read is based on the Valjoux 7751 movement. What is the vibration per hour on this watch, is the seconds hand smooth like a 28800 vph movements? I owned a midsize Omega seamaster blue dial, and the second hand was choppy, hopefully someone can tell me this one has 28800 vph. Thanks friends.
