On the Mend
The Swiss watch industry has not recovered from the Great Recession of 2009. But Baselworld showed that it is recuperating. In Switzerland's watchmaking region, in the weeks before the mid-March opening of the annual Baselworld watch and jewelry fair, people were calling the 2010 show le salon des tous les dsespoir C the exhibition of the desperate. Surprisingly strong retail watch sales in December, which buoyed spirits at the SIHH exhibition in Geneva in January, were not enough to cure what ails the Swiss watch industry. As Credit Suisse noted in a comprehensive survey of the Swiss economy in January, The watchmaking industry is currently in its most severe crisis since the traumatic watchmaking crisis of the 1970s. Swiss watch exports fell a gut-wrenching 22.3 percent in 2009.The Great Recession hit watchmaking harder than any other industry in Switzerland, measured by the unemployment rate, according to Credit Suisse. Look what happened to my new Diver 15710
This was my latest incoming on the 5th. Didn't even get a chance to post pic. Slid on sand and dump the bike and end result is both of my new toys are damaged. The only upside to all of this is that sent to watch Clearwater Tuesday it arrived on Tuesday at 1030 and Betsy called me at 130 with and estimate. Don't know wear else you get service like that. However I am pleased and watch will back like new again in 2 weeks.

scratches on hour hand
Hey guys,I'm about to pick up a 5712 ss and get rid of my 5712g. I'm quite a perfectionist and I noticed some scratches at the outer most part of the hour hand. Has anybody seen something like this before? Manufacturing defect or damaged during previous service?Would this be a show stopper for you guys when picking up this piece?-Matt
Getting Service From a Different Dealer
Still waiting for my boat to come in with my first watch (BLNR) but I was curious about service and warranty work. If I end up finding a watch outside my area such as on vacation, etc and I buy it, do I simply use my local ad for service and warranty work? What if I was to buy a watch in Europe let's say and two weeks later it stops working when I'm back home?I can't see where my local ad would be happy to help me with a watch I purchased somewhere else. Is this a known issue or are they treated like car warranties where your expected to take it to any authorized dealer?Hopefully I'll end up buying locally and this won't be an issue but you never know. Thanks
