Chronoswiss Sold to Swiss Investor
Munich-based watchmaker Chronoswiss has been sold to Swiss entrepreneur Oliver Ebstein, 37, and his wife Eva Maria. The Lucerne-based owners are new to the watch industry, and they have said that Chronoswiss will be owned by them privately, rather than through their investment company Meru AG. “Chronoswiss is to be retained as an independent family. It is our great pleasure to introduce ourselves here to get involved in the long term, and sooner or later to direct the company itself. We want to continue the tradition of using high-quality mechanical watch components. Therefore, we look forward to working together with all employees on the success of Chronoswiss,” said Oliver Ebstein.Former Chronoswiss managing director Pete Josef Burgmayer remains on board, though Sigrun Schilling-Heinen will not continue with the firm. Gerd-Rdiger Lang is also expected to remain involved. Lang said, “I think the new arrangement is very good and I would love to be involved with Chron
Makara Sea Turtle Review
Funky tool dive watches will always have a home on worn&wound. There is something inexplicably charming about them. Sometimes they are too big, sometimes too clunky, but they are kind of always fun to test and try out. The biggest problem with them is variation. Many brands have nearly the same designs, sometimes suspiciously so, making them become tiresome and tedious. So, when a brand comes along with something unique, it tends to grab our attention. We've talked about Makara before, when we got the chance to handle a prototype of their first watch, the Octopus. It was a fun watch with a unique design that sold out quickly. As a follow up Makara recently released a new watch called the Sea Turtle. Available only in bronze, but with a bunch of dial options, it takes the distinct look of the Octopus in a new direction. Featuring a 300m CuSn8 case, sapphire crystal and a Seiko NH35A movement for $395, it's also well priced. Let's take a closer look.Makara Sea Turtle ReviewCase: Bronz
Melbourne Watch Company Flinders Review
It's really exciting to see some of the watches that are funded via kickstarter come to fruition. We've looked at the Pebble, the Anstead Oceanis, the Lew & Huey Riccardo and now, the Melbourne Watch Co's Flinders. As is always the case with these funded projects, the question becomes, was it worth it? Did the horde of philanthropic watch hobbyists help birth a worthwhile product? The answer, in my opinion, is a firm yes.Named after a central train hub in Melbourne, the Flinders is a modern business-casual watch; a sort of everyday design. It's versatile in a non-sport setting, which is to say, wear it to work, to the bar, out with friends, to walk your dog, but probably don't sky-dive into a volcano with it (but if you do, tell us). It's sized to have presence, but not be obnoxious and styled to be handsome, eye-catching, but not ostentatious. It's also designed to be a good value, featuring nice detailing and finishing throughout, a sapphire crystal and a Miyota 9015 for about $4
