The Value Proposition: The Seiko SKX007 Diver's Watch
Hello, 007. Today we’re going to take a look at what I’ve always assumed is another one of the worst-kept secrets in modern watchmaking: the Seiko Diver, model number SKX007. It’s probably the single best value at any price point, in an automatic watch that fits all the criteria of the infamous ISO 6425, which specifies the criteria for a watch to be able to call itself a diver’s watch (at least, in ISO member nations). Yes, it fits both the letter and the spirit of the law, but as with another worst-kept secret from Seiko – the incredible Seiko 5, which we looked at not long ago in our story “A $75 Watch That Looks Like A Million Bucks” – it ultimately manages to be so appealing on its own merits that the almost incredulity-inducing price is the least important aspect of the watch. 1 OF 8 The SKX007 may have a humble price but it is part of a proud lineage of diver’s watches that goes all the way back to 1965, when Se
Introducing: The A. Lange & S?hne 1815 Tourbillon Handwerkskunst (Full Details, Pricing)
The "Handwerkskunst" watches from A. Lange & Söhne represent probably the highest end of what's already a very high end watchmaking company: the combination of very demanding and very refined traditional movement design and finishing techniques with some of the most exotic and unusual decorative methods in engraving and other horological crafts. Watches like the Zeitwerk Handwerkskunst take what are already extremely elevated watches to a whole new level of appeal. Let's take a look at the latest addition to the Handwerkskunst family of timepieces, and see what Lange has cooked up for the finale celebration of the 200th anniversary of this most defining of Saxon watchmakers. 1 OF 2 The first of the A. Lange & Söhne Handwerkskunst (the word means, approximately, "craftsmanship" in German, "handwerk" meaning crafts, and "kunst" meaning art) watches was the 2011 Richard Lange Pour Le Mérite Handwerkskun
Omega Basel display
Went to the Basel event at the local boutique this evening. Lots of cool stuff.Event was good. Not many people there but it was kind of come and go. Bent the ear of one of the sales guys for nearly an hour who I think was tired of getting watches out for me by the time I left. Some things I learned:The Deep Black is amazing, and I WILL be getting one.The new PloProf doesn't do anything for me.Omega changed it up a bit and now all POs that are orange/grey are Titanium (not sure I ever saw that as part of the announcement). In the past, the blue variants were always Ti. And they now have a blue PO in stainless steel. The 18kt PO on rubber strap (that looks like alligator). This is blue, although hard to see in the pic. This has now taken the droolworthy place on my list over the 18kt/Oysterflex Yachtmaster. The new Speedmaster Moonphase is pretty sweet.
Hello from Houston...
Just wanted to say hello as I am new TRF pledge member...I have lots of hobbies and interests and have always had an appreciation for luxury time pieces. I am at a point in my life where I would like to learn more about watches and add to my small watch collection. There are six or so Rolexes that have caught my eye including: Hulk, Kermit, Batman, DeepSea D-Blue Dial, new Daytona C white dial, and the new Skydweller blue dial... just to name a few. Also have some strong attraction to Patek and JLC time pieces as well. So hopefully over the course of several years some of these time pieces will end up in my watch case.I just finished reading Collecting Luxury Watches by Leonard Lowe on our cruise last December. I enjoyed it and gained some insight into the watch world. I am looking for other good books on this subject if anyone has ones to suggest.I am also a big fan of Ben Clymer and his Hodinkee videos on youtube, especially the one featuring John Mayer. https://.youtube/watch?v=a
