big 6-0
It was my father's 60th birthday over the weekend. For Koreans, the 1st and 60th birthdays are huge milestones.I was on here a few months ago asking for advice on what watch to get him. (Thread: .rolexforums/showthread.php?t=399375) Ended up going with the best advice and asked my mother what he wanted. My brother and I got him an Omega AT >15000 Gauss which he tried on at an AD and really liked. My father and his siblings got my grandfather an Omega for his 60th so I guess this is a tradition now. My brother recently got my grandfather's watch serviced and is wearing it now after years of hibernation.I'd like to thank DavidSW for an easy transaction and TRF for introducing me to its trusted sellers. Some pics for your enjoyment!
1969 Speedmaster incoming.. My first Speedmaster!
Finally a Speedy for me. I paid for it last night and should have it in a day or two here. It looks original to me. The seller listed it as original. I have a NASA type velcro strap incoming along with a leather strap and a NATO type I already have here. The auction was for the watch head only. Which was fine with me. I swap bracelets a lot and can always add a period correct bracelet later is how I figure it. I chose to go vintage instead of newer. I love the fact its already old, with some wear on it, and I just love the older dial too. Here are some pics.
DateJust II trade in for Sky Dweller
Hi, I'm new to the forum and was looking for a bit of guidance. I was in town on Saturday and on the off chance enquired in a well known retailer if they had any Sky Dwellers, preferably stainless steel, I was told they didn't but they may have a bi-metal version but they had a list of people to call first who had expressed an interest so he couldn't show it to me until today. Well today I viewed the watch and I would love to own it. I currently have an 116300 Datejust II November 2016 which I was looking to trade in but I was knocked sideways by the horrific trade in offer. I'm not green to the world of watch trading, you never get what you deem the watch to be worth, not even close but this was particularly offensive especially seeing as the one they are selling they could give none of the usual ten or even five percent off RRP. I really can't let mine go for what they have offered but just wanted to know what other people do in this position? Obviously selling privately is an option
Another "My AD said..."
I know a groan is expected whenever someone brings up what their AD told them but I had a refreshing conversation last night that bears repeating.I have known my friend at the Houston Boutique since I bought my first watch from him in 1997 at the newly opened local Tourneau. Since then he's worked at three other local Rolex jewellers and has been at the Boutique since it opened.I called him two weeks ago and was surprised to find they had a BLNR in stock and bought it straight from its shipping coffin that night. Yesterday I went back just to chat and of course the subject of SS sport model shortages came up. His take was much less conspiratorial that what is usually said here. He simply said that Rolex projects their production needs several years out, a textbook business practice. The last few years have NOT been great for watch sales at least in the US, and they simply weren't ready for the increased demand this year. It will be remedied for next year he feels certain. He said their
