The Biggest of the Big: New IWC Big Pilot’s Heritage Watches (Live Pictures)
IWC Schaffhausen launched its first Big Pilot’s Watch (52-Caliber T.S.C) in 1940; for 75 years, that historic timepiece has held the title of largest IWC watch ever made. This year, however, IWC releases one that eclipses it. The IWC Big Pilot’s Heritage Watch 55 along with its slightly smaller little brother, the IWC Big Pilot’s Heritage Watch 48 made their high-flying debuts this week at SIHH 2016 in Geneva. When discussing watches available in two case sizes, one doesn’t usually hear the 48-mm version described by the brand rep as “the smaller of the two,” but that’s exactly what we heard today, so let’s start with that one. The Big Pilot’s Heritage Watch 48 has a case made of lightweight titanium, so despite its size it weighs in at a reasonable 120 grams. The watch (both watches, actually) has a dial with several new and subtle design features that make them more period-accurate: the triangle under the 12 o’clock posit
Dottling Gyrowinder Watch Winder
What do you get when you combine the simple task of winding a mechanical automatic watch with the sci-fi possibility of a 1990's era virtual reality gyroscope harness? You get the Gyrowinder - which is the newest high-end "presentation" watch winder from German Dottling. I call it a presentation watch winder because none of this is strictly necessary to wind a watch. Such high-end toys like this do double duty in winding a watch as well as offering a visually stimulating way of presenting it (usually just to yourself). In a sense, it is functional art that sits on your desk or on some shelf. You know those little swinging metal balls on strings that people used to have on their desks? The Gyrowinder is like a really expensive version of that, which also keeps your timepiece wound.I can see myself coming to the office, getting ready for the day by removing my watch and putting it in the Gyrowinder. Why? Well aside from keeping it wound and off my wrist while typing, I learned from movie
The HODINKEE Shop Now Carries Watch Winders, Strap Changing Tools C Plus Ten New Calfskin Straps All
Over at the HODINKEE Shop we’ve been expanding our repertoire, and today we’re proud to announce that we are now carrying watch winders and strap changing tools. In addition, we’ve stocked some killer single-layer calfskin straps in 10 colors and two sizes, as well as two new leather travel rolls. See below for full details. Watch Winders We’ve tried a lot of winders, but we keep coming back to Swiss Kubik. They are among the most quality winders we’ve encountered, with several beautiful finishes and nearly silent winding. Now in the HODINKEE Shop, we have five Swiss Kubik winders available: 1 OF 19 The Startbox is the most affordable winder option at $460, and features a sleek black finish. 2 OF 19 The Anodized Silver winder features a modern silver finish, and is available for $795. 3 OF 19 The Wenge Wood finish is one of our favorites, featuring a rustic wood finish. Dust in SMP movement?
I have a new SMP 006 sapphire caseback and noticed a piece of dust or particle stuck on the edge of a piece of metal right underneath the hairspring. Since I look at the back all the time, it's new and didn't see it the day before. How the hell did it get there? I better take it to an Omega boutique and have them remove it before it disappears deep into the movement. Is it this easy for dust to get inside the caseback?
