The Streets Of London: Watch Hunting With A Watchmaker
Please enjoy the following article contributed by legendary watchmaker Peter Roberts of England. Peter's new self-named brand is Peter Roberts and is about to release their first watch. It is 1969 and the streets of London are still swinging. As a young horology student, at Hackney Technical College, I am wondering where I will be able to get my hands on some top quality watches for practice. Surprisingly, owners of fine watches are not willing to risk their precious timepieces to an impecunious, novice watchmaker like myself. As soon as I was old enough to roam free, I discovered the wonderful delights of exploring London on foot, putting real life memories and images to those evocative, Monopoly Board Game street names. Now of course, I found the Kings Road, Carnaby Street and Soho, enjoyed the Royal Parks, and in the summer months, the unfeasibly short mini-skirts. beamon RIP
Some of you old timers will remember beamon who was an early and active member of this and other forums. Roger and I shared interests beyond watches and over the years became good friends. A couple of years ago he and his wife moved from Tucson to South Carolina and we talked many times of finally meeting face-to-face. We communicated regularly via email and phone so last week when I realized that I had not heard from Roger in a while, I gave him a call. His wife answered and told me that Roger was not doing well and was under hospice care. So Saturday my wife and I drove up for the meeting we had talked about for so long. We also got to meet Roger's wife, daughter and son in law. Fortunately Roger was alert enough to participate in our conversations. It was a wonderful time together. Last evening I received a text from Roger's daughter that Roger had just died. He died as he lived, gracefully and peacefully.
Basel 2018: change Deep sea D- blue bracelet
As Basel approaches & the hype mounts regarding the unavailability of SS sports models, I find I'm more drawn to them. Marketing tactics aside, the lighter weight, lower cost and tool watch ethos appeals to me. Sooo I'm looking at the D- blue but would like a better proportioned bracelet similar to the SD 43. Any insights? Rumors? Assurances from AD's?
Because I֪ bored....
