Bring a Loupe: A Selection Of Vintage Chronographs, Including A Rare Rolex 'Pre-Daytona,' A
This week, vintage watches are back in full force. In this Bring A Loupe you will find some heavy hitters, starting with a coveted Rolex "Pre-Daytona" with a black dial. Also expect to see an outstanding Heuer Skipper, an original Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic, and an unusual Type 20 from an unexpected source. Finally, a great Universal Geneve Tri-Compax just came back on eBay, but maybe not for the better. This is your Bring A Loupe for March 25, 2016. A Rolex 'Pre-Daytona' Reference 6238 With Coveted Black Dial 1 OF 8 The reference 6238 is often considered as the starting point of the Daytona line, as it displayed the modern-looking dials that can then be found in the first Daytona, the reference 6239. The 6238, nicknamed the Pre-Daytona, was launched in the early 1960s, only three years before the introduction of the reference 6239 C the first actual Daytona C that Ben described in depth here. Casual Leather Strap Ideas
I just acquired a Speedmaster 9300 steel on steel. I have the black leather aligator strap too. Love the watch on its bracelet. I will be in Paris next month and wish to get a casual looking strap made at ABP. Any suggestions for what works? Pictures would be great. Seems the choices are overwhelming - it might help to have some pictures to point me in the right direction. Thanks.
Took a trip to Yorkdale today to see the new Panerai boutique
Been 5 or so years since I've been to the mall and I only live about 1.5 miles away. Just nothing I really need there that I can't order off the Internet. However if I want to view watches in person. It's a trip to the mall Last time was when the Cartier boutique opened and I wanted to view the Santos 100 XL models. Quite nice, but sort of like the phase jumbo shrimp. XL was only 38 mm, but a walk around and to check out the rest of the mall I was waiting for the new LeCoultre boutique to open, but it was attached to a store which seemed to look down their noses at you if your not dressed a certain way I dress very casual to test reception. Sweat pants, black casual shirt and white sneakers Last time at the store. Salesclerk followed me around like I was going to do a smash and grab. Not a good morning, hello etc. Guess if they ignored me I would go away. So. No JLC look today Went back to the Cartier store. Looked around at a number of new models. Including the drive. Nice size. GMT Pics on Strap - No Bracelets
Hi all,I've been doing some searching around some leather/nato/rubber straps for my GMT to change up the look a little, and wanted to see if anyone had any inspiration. I know that the watch looks best on the bracelet, and I do love it, but wanted to see if anyone had wrist shots or other pictures of their watch mounted on another apparatus. Let's see em!
