Romain Gauthier Logical One Watch: How Sensible Is It?
Independent watch maker Romain Gauthier (R. Gauthier) has just released a new high-end watch which at the same time we both really want and completely don't need. Oh, horologyyou wicked maiden. I highly disagree with the name "Logical One." It implies that this watch errs on the side of prudence and sensibility. Which is most often not the case with beautiful high-end timepieces such as this. There is nothing logical about it. However, to give credence where credence is due, Mr. Gauthier comes from an engineering background and the basis of this watch is to logically improve a particular watch movement feature that I quite love. So let's check it out.Logical One is all about improving the age-old fusee and chain transmission systems that move power from the mainspring to the rest of the movement. I love these because they look like tiny bicycle chains, are hard as hell to produce, and are very clever. What are they meant to do? Basically it is all about "constant force." Meaning that a
LUM-TEC B15 Watch Winner Photos
Please see the reader review of the LUM-TEC B15 watch that Beau was fortunate enough to win last month. Being a talented photographer, Beau provided each of these beautiful images of the actual watch:"What can one say about the Lum-Tec Combat B15 that is not being said by those that are fortunate enough to own one? Possibly, that there are a couple unexpected perks that are not apparent from just the pictures seen on the web.The first thing that is very obvious, is the visual depth of carbon fiber that comprises the face. As someone who has a great love for carbon fiber, and who has items comprised wholly from it, I can say it is the absolute best that I have seen on a watch and 'moves' with the light, as good carbon fiber should. Secondly, the pushers of the chronograph feel different than your average pushers. When first depressed, it gives the characteristic 'click' that you expect when starting the function, however, each additional push of the same pusher does not. The motion is s
My Gift Giving Theory: Not What They Want, But What You Want Them To Have
The gift giving season is upon us, and at least for myself, the biggest issue is always, "what should I get ____?!" Of course, the commercialized nature of the season imbibes us with the notion that our paramount motivation for the next few monthsis ardently selecting those gifts that, "they will remember/will mean something to them/will make them think fondly of me forever." Often times this task requires far more dedication and thought than is possible for busy people such as ourselves.Let me first proclaim that the prospect of successful gift giving would be an almost non-issue if money were not a question. There is an almost infinite wealth of glorious gift ideas at our disposal if we could assert a large budget on the matter. Alas, we are woefully limited by the meager budgets we often set aside for such tangential luxuries as the giving of thoughtful gifts to others. So what are we do to? Even those loved ones whom which we know so well can present a quandary when it comes to sele
