Only Watch 2011 Charity Watch Auction
Each two years we get to enjoy the unique pieces watch brands donate to the Only Watch auction event. Held in Monaco at the Monaco Yacht show in September Only Watch proceeds go to benefit medical research dedicated to fighting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The auction part is facilitated by Antiquorum.UPDATE: Click here to see my growing list of all the Only Watch 2011 auction pieces.Starting in the spring, participating brands will slowly start to announce the special watches they are offering to the auction. These are often really exciting to see. The Only Watch rules dictate that all watches donated for auction must be unique. This either means the first piece in a limited edition, or a totally unique watch made specially for the event by a brand. None of the watches have been officially debuted yet, but I do have a list of the participating brands. Only Watch 2011 will be held September 22 2011 at 6pm or 4pm GMT time (actual starting time isn't clear yet) in Monaco. Before that the
Review: Tsovet SVT-FW44
?I?have been wearing the?Tsovet SVT-FW44 for about three months, and there’s a lot I like about this watch. ?Its simple, clean design, bright blue hands, and?distinct?case help it stand out while maintaining classic styling. ?Lets first dig into the features of the watch and a bit about the company that makes it.Case: 316l Matte Stainless SteelMovement: Ronda 513 Swiss Quartz MovementSub/Dial/S: Silver Bdl/W Black MarkersLens: Hardened Mineral CrystalCase Back: 316l Matte Stainless SteelStrap: Italian Calf LeatherBuckle: 316l Matte Stainless SteelWater Res. : 10atm (100m/300f)Dimensions: 44mm x 12.65mmWarranty: 2 YearsThe SVT-FW44’s design is inspired by the WW1 infantryman’s field watch. ?It features a simple face, with no hour markers, but instead displays minute markers where the hour markers typically appear. ?The hands are a metallic royal blue?with?luminescent?filling, and?are offset against the clean white of the face. ? It's time to vote!
As many of you are aware, I have been contemplating over the following two AP's as my first. It's been days going back and forth, but before I start looking for a specific dial color or strap combination, I've taken the time to go to a boutique and take some pics so you guys can help me out. Please vote and let me know which one suits my 6.5 wrist more. I honestly think that the pictures do not do these watches justice and from a distance, I think I can actually sport either one of these. Let's see what you guys think! I've also added a neither for those of you who think that these two models are a no go and for me to go back to my Rolex collection. Thanks!
Which complicated Nautilus?
I'm on the market for my first Patek. Since I'm a jeans+t-shirt or shorts+t-shirt wearing guy, I'd like to stick to the steel Nautilus line on bracelet. I also believe I can't pull off anything dressy, so a gold watch on a leather strap is not my thing. I'm not a fan of the Aquanaut, and also would like to stay away from the 5712 due to its asymmetrical dial. And I also would prefer to stay away from the 5711 since I already have or plan to acquire too many '70s design non-complicated (2 or 3-hand) watches, namely Ingenieur, Royal Oak 15202ST, GO Seventies Panorama Date, and probably the new 3-hand Overseas as well. Also, IMHO Patek is in its strides when it comes to building unique and/or interesting complications. So my choices are the 5726, 5980 and 5990 -- right now. Apart from the obvious best and wisest idea of just wait for the 40th anniversary, since it may bring something even better for you, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the current choices. Please note that currently I d
