Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Memovox International
At SIHH Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced a modern version of the Master Memovox International, originally created for the brand's 125th anniversary in 1958 and also known as the Memovox Worldtimer. The alarm disk on this Memovox (“voice of memory”) features different cities and regions. This piece will be produced in two limited editions in 18-carat pink gold and in steel. These new versions are fitted with the company's Calibre 956, which is the direct descendant of JLC’s Calibre 815, the first automatic movement with alarm introduced in 1956. This is a rare example of a movement that's still in production more than 50 years after its creation, though many improvements have been added over the years. In 1959, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 825 added a date aperture at 3 o'clock. In 1970 the Calibre 916 replaced its swinging weight by a 360 winding rotor and increased the balance frequency from 21,600 vph to 28,800 vph, which has become the norm for precision watches. In 19
My First Grail Watch: Magnus Michelsen Of Michelsen Iceland
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Magnus Michelsen (MM): Im the brother, son, grandson and great-grandson of watchmakers. Although Im not a watchmaker myself, I've grown up admiring and working with watches. I am the Marketing Director of the Icelandic micro-brand Michelsen, the countrys oldest watch firm.ABTW: What was your first grail watch?MM: Ive craved for a few watches, most of them relatively simple, like the blinged edition of Rolex GMT-Master II (116759SARU) and some Tags with Calibre S or Calibre 17 movements. My first real grail watch is the A. Lange & S?hne Datograph.ABTW: What did you like so much about the watch?MM: Its simply a spectacular watch. The movement is so extraordinary beautiful. The brand itself is nothing less than
Breitling question.
How does the Breitling's second-hand move compared to the smoothness of Rolex's? Particularly those big bulky Breitlings. (like the ones that look like this one .rolexforums/showthread.php?t=5676 )
Omega Speedmaster 50 Christie's Auction
So, I am sure that most of you are aware of the December 15 auction to take place at Christies in NYC (.christies/salelanding...ntSaleID=25971 ). Of course, I fully understand that the die hard fans are worried that this type of sale will keep driving the prices up further, and thus will make more and more of these pieces out of our reach (i.e., the true fans who do not have unlimited means), but this is in my opinion a fact of life resulting from the general public having more and more access to expert information via blogs, forums etc. The people who were lucky enough to buy watches at a bargain price a few years/months ago should just feel that, LUCKY, and newcomers like myself will just keep hoping that the prices will remain reasonable for a bit longer and that true fans and enthusiasts will be able to enjoy nice pieces not only because they can simply afford them, but because they enjoy them for what they represent in terms of history and mechanical prowess in watchmaking.
