Jaeger-LeCoultre-Backed Team Prepares for Himalayan Ascent
A team of three mountaineers lead by a Swiss climber has arrived at their 5,200 meter base camp in Nepal to prepare for an ascent of a never-before-conquered peak. On their wrists are three Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces: a 1958 Geophysic Chronometer, a Master Compressor Extreme Lab, and a new and as yet undisclosed extreme creation prepared by the Manufacture workshops in the Valle de Joux. The three climbers are Stphane Schaffter, a Swiss alpinist who has scaled the fabled Bonatti Pillar in the Mont Blanc mountain range, Lhakpa Tenzing Sherpa (known as Apa Sherpa) who has a record 19 Everest ascents under his belt, and Little Karim Balti, who has accompanied many sportsmen on expeditions above 8,000 meters.Introduced in 2007, the Master Compressor Extreme Lab operates without oil or lubricants of any kind. Jaeger-LeCoultre heralds this achievement as the future of watchmaking. The Master Compressor Extreme Lab is also designed to operate precisely at temperatures from -40 to -60 Cels
Bring a Loupe: A Selection Of Elegant Watches From Jaeger-LeCoultre, Patek, And Rolex
This week's Bring A Loupe will explore a new side of horology, featuring thin and elegant watches that would go so well with a smoking jacket. Expect some great pieces from the most renowned manufactures at tackling slimness issues – Jaeger-LeCoultre and Piaget of course, but also Rolex, with the forgotten Veriflat. For the chrono addicts, get ready for an outstanding Heuer Autavia and a very full set Rolex Daytona. This is your Bring A Loupe for September 25, 2015. Foreword: the case size of the selected watches might appear tiny on paper, however you should consider that a flat profile always increases the perceived dimensions on the wrist, as illustrated by Jack's review of the 36 mm Vacheron Constantin Ultra Fine 1955 here. A Surprisingly Slim Rolex, The Veriflat 1 OF 11 With all the iconic tool watches you know of, Rolex would probably not be the first manufacture to spring to mind when considering a thin dressy watch. However, in the 1950

Thinking of taking the Panerai plunge!
I am very much a Rolex addict with a sideline in Omega's. Panerai had never really entered into my consciousness except as a brand that Rolex supplied movements to many years ago.Now all that has changed. Looking around my AD the other evening I stumbled into the Panerai display case and was immediately smitten by a black Luminor Marina 8 day model. But it looked so big on my 6.5 wrist I just wasn't sure. The salesman of course said it looked fantastic Anyway, I thought I should do some research before deciding whether or not to buy one of these intriguing watches. It doesn't help one's research when the watch world is divided between lovers and haters of the brand with no one taking a neutral position. Something about this brand polarises opinion. My research has led me to favouring 2 Luminor models - the base and the Luminor Base 8 days. I feel I now prefer the clean dial look of these over the Marina with its seconds hand at 9. I think I'm going to go for the 8 day model - I like t
