Orient CDH00001B Explorer Review
It's sort of a general rule of thumb that mechanical complications increase the price of a watch. If you look at a brand's catalog, their chronographs, GMTs, perpetual calendars, etc (should they have them in the first place) cost more than simpler 3-hand models, and understandably so. As the name implies, complications increase the complexity of the movement, which, generally speaking, increases the amount of parts, labor and skill required to make the movement and thusly increases the cost. So, when you're perusing the internet or a local shop and you come across an automatic GMT with a power reserve and decentralized date by a reputable brand, you're likely looking at something that costs at least $1,000, more likely much more. Well, Orient once again defies pricing logic with their CDH00001B C Explorer, which costs $650 MSRP, or $455 with an Orient 30% discount code (try fall2012).So, what is the Orient Explorer? Well, on paper it's basically everything you'd want in a traveler's
Event Recap: Welcoming Nomos To The United States In NYC
Last night, we at HODINKEE, along with our friends at Wempe Jewelers on Fifth Avenue, welcomed the entire NOMOS Glashutte management team, as well as over 200 watch lovers to a downtown NYC gallery space to celebrate the *official* launch of NOMOS in the United States. Now many of you may be thinking "hey, but NOMOS has been available here and there for over a year!" and that's true. NOMOS has been sold at Wempe, and more recently at Tourneau for a little while now, but last night marked the Glashutte manufacture's official jump to the US. The party kicked off their plans to open dozens of new doors all over the United States. 2 OF 33 Guests were able to see, try on, and play with the entire collection, including the brand new Metro (designed by Mark Braun, who was in the house last night), and Our own Stephen Pulvirent took the stage at one point to say an official welcome to both NOMOS and all our guests. 3 OF 33 Overall, the response to l

Mens Omega Seamaster Quartz
Hi My boss has just won a mens Omega Seamaster watch, the RRP is ?1000 in the UK. He says I can have it for the tax he has to pay on it, i.e. ?400. I then plan to sell it and wondered if anyone would be interested. Looking for ?750.Any thoughts? Will be getting it mid February.
First Annual Calender
Hi guys, I've always wanted to get an annual calendar. I think I have a Patek bug as it's the only watch I'd consider. At this point, I'm looking at the 5139 and 5140 (not Plat.). As I don't have a YG or RG watch I'm leaning towards the 5140 more. I'm also interested in 5940J, but couldn't find the MRSP and was wondering if it's the same because they use the same 240Q movement. Also, as an inexperienced PP person, I'm really looking to hear from you guys on your personal experience/opinions on these models. I'm open to alternatives in the same price range (although I'm not sure my AD would have it). P.S. Please spare me the try it on talk.
