Dive Watch Wednesday: Two Swiss-Made, Affordable Dive Watches That Got Better Over Time
Tissot and Certina are Swiss brands, both part of the Swatch Group, that currently offer mechanical dive watch models priced below $1,000 the Tissot Seastar 1000 and?Certina DS Action Diver. These watches also have something else in common: both were improved shortly after their launch, which makes them an even more attractive option to those in search of an affordable Swiss made dive watch. The 43-mm Certina DS Action Diver was first introduced at Baselworld in 2011 in stainless steel (Ref. C013.407.11.051.00) and titanium (Ref. C013.407.44.081.00). A 45-mm chronograph version followed in 2012 (Ref. C013.427.11.051.00), and a blue-dial version in 2013 (Ref. C013.407.11.041.00). All models offer 200-meter water resistance and a bezel inlay made of sapphire crystal?covered with a transparent layer (epoxy resin). They are either powered by an ETA 2824-2 or ETA 7753 movement and are available with either a rubber strap or metal bracelet. (Considering the price difference, we recommend go
HourTime Show Watch Podcast Episode 161: Rolex Prices & PR Debacles
This episode features Ariel Adams and ABTW Managing Editor David Bredan as a guest host as John was away. We discuss the interesting topic of how Rolex prices have increased over the years and how it relates to the industry overall. We also talk about how watch launches can fail and the importance of honest communication, as well as who might be buying Chinese tourbillons in honor of the Transformers. We also talk about the artistic renderings of the Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon from our Watch What-If series.Listen to the HourTime Show watch podcast episode 161 here.
MB&F HM5 "On The Road Again" Watch
Say hello to the MB&F HM5 watch. The 5th model in the Horological Machine family comes about two years after the release of the MB&F HM4 (hands-on here), and is actually the high-end boutique watch brand's most affordable watch ever. Max Busser of MB&F continues to assert his youth and the inspiration that formed his tastes in a watch that is not only motivated by an era, but also directly inspired by some of its most iconic creations.Last year while waiting for a new Horological Machine model we were greeted with the Legacy Machine Number 1. We now know that MB&F will stagger new HM and LM models each year - at least for the time being. So HM5 this year and LM2 next year. Inspired by "driver" and LED watches from the 1970s, the HM5 is nicknamed "On The Road Again." This isn't just because it is based on watches meant to be worn while driving, but also because the design of the case is meant to look like a sweeping fastback with rear window slits of cars like the iconic
HourTime Show Podcast Episode 5 - Bell & Ross Goes Electric + Some Buying Tips
This is a good show in term of content, but the recording was done while I lost my voice, and while John was in China (he couldn't even test to see if we posted it online properly because the Internet is so heavily censored in China!). So pardon our oddities or faintness in sound. Just turn that volume way up! Enjoy folks. We talk about the "Grey Market" for watches, watch companies' animosity toward allowing you to buy online, and the Internet's and Bell & Ross' role in changing what the Watch Grey Market looks like.? The new, thinnest Pathfinder PAW-2000 from Casio with satellite syncing, auto-illumination and much more that makes it a go-to outdoor watch.? We then complain about watch accessories that are as expensive or more expensive than the watches themselves.? We then introduce the concept of Febreezing your nylon straps.? John puts forth some knowledge about GMT watches.Listen to HourTime episode 5 at HourTimeShowwatches-dealer here.Or, download/stream the .mp3 here.
HELP Buying first Rolex in London/UK!?
hi guysi have been following these forums for a long time trying to decide what watch to buy over the next 3 months and have decided it will be a Datejust with a fluted bezel. But i am still a watch beginner and only own a Rado, DW and few other basic watches but have been an admirer of Rolex DJ and Omega Speedmast/Seamaster for a long time. Being I'm in the UK and this site seems very heavily focused on USA seller and AD's and I just don't know where i can buy the watch?I have been looking at the ads from AD's on this forum but not sure if i can trust them as i don't want to buy a fake and especially when shipping abroad. So ideally i need a recommendation for UK/London sellers who are reasonably priced for a used model, my budget is 3-4k GBP. Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy or should i risk online from USA? This is the type of watch, but i find this site watchfinder slightly expensive. I will be wearing this casually and at work, smooth bezels seem to be cheaper, is the f
