Rolex Ambassador Sir Jackie Stewart On Watches, Cars, Good Taste
I was rather impressed to learn that Sir Jackie Stewart was one of Rolex's original serious brand ambassadors and has been part of the brand family since1968, when he was 29 years old. That means the Scottish motorsports legend has been a part of the Rolex image for over 45 years, and whats more important isn't just what Rolex has done for Jackie, but what Sir Jackie has done for Rolex.Today, the concept of a brand ambassador (no matter the industry) is rather straight forward and typically a business transaction whereby one company wants to leverage the popularity of a particular well-known individual. It wasn't (and to a small degree still isn't) always that way, and people like Jackie Stewart represent an older, more involved approach, where an ambassador is really an integral part of the company in the way a consultant is. Rolex doesn't even refer to their ambassadors by that name, but rather as "Testimonee," as though the term were a proper noun. That means the "Testimonee" people
Breguet Clock With Docking Pocket Watch Re-Sets Record For A Clock At Auction, Fetching $6.8 Million at Sotheby's New York
Yesterday Sotheby's New York held its Important Watches and Clocks sale at their Upper East Side headquarters. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the record-setting sale of the Duc D'Orlans Breguet Sympathique clock from 1835, a stunning clock with a docking pocket watch - yes, a docking pocket watch.Just looking at the Duc D'Orlans, you can tell you're staring at something impressive. The case is decorated with beautiful ormolu-mounted red tortoise shell, it stands at nearly two feet tall, and the amount of gold sculpture is staggering. But it's the little repeating watch perched on top that really makes the Duc D'Orlans special.?Abraham-Louis Breguet wanted to tackle the problem of watch winding, and this is one of his finest achievements in the arena. While in exile in Switzerland during the French Revolution, Breguet conceived of the Sympathique system. At the bottom of the pocket watch are three tiny holes. When docked in the gold cradle atop the parent clock, these holes

Contemplating my first flip...
So last year I bought my first Rolex, a Sub LVc. I love it, its an awesome watch and I love the green. I am sort of a bigger guy (wrists are 7.25) and usually like a slightly larger watch. Been thinking about the DSSD D-Blue, worried they may discontinue it and I love the dial and blue is a color I love. Will I regret flipping my first Rolex? I'd just save to buy another, but Im also saving for a house downpayment so its hard to justify a second Rolex in a year, considering that goal, but them discontinuing it has me thinking it may be now or never.
