Tissot T-Race Watch Winner Follow-Up
You guys love asking us who the winner of the watch giveaways are. We have a really simple policy on that - basically the winners are kept private, but asked to submit follow-up images of their new watches with thoughts. If they don't, I prefer to maintain their privacy. Seriously, aBlogtoReadwatches-dealer get's a number of e-mails and Facebook comments asking about "who is the winner of so and so giveaway." I am happy there is such enthusiasm. Anyhow, the winner of last month's Tissot T-Race watch giveaway was nice enough to send a picture and some thoughts. Congrats to Scott C. of Arizona:"Got the watch this afternoon, pics above. I'm off to my watch guy to have the band trimmed? (could probably do it myself but don't want to mess it up).? Initial impressionvery comfortable.? The rose gold is a great look. Quality seems pretty goodno, not the level of my Breitling, AP or Rolexes or JLC I have owned, but very nice detail on the watch, clasp and crown mechanism not as crisp as high-
Nomos Metro Review
When Nomos unveiled the Metro at last year's Basel World, it was met with such adoration from both the press and watch enthusiasts that it must have made all of the other brands feel put out. Not only did this deceptively simple and all together quirky little watch get praised for its slightly odd design, it was also the harbinger of Nomos' independence from the Swiss. As Mark eloquently explained back in March of 2014, with the Metro, Nomos also unveiled their Swing System; their in-house escapement. The most costly and complicated part of the movement (barring additional complications), the escapement includes the balance, balance spring, escape wheel and pallet, and has no room for error. One might assume that all brands that claim to have in-house movements would all have their own version, but it's actually something few brands have the capacity to make, especially the balance spring. For a relatively young and, at least in the US, small brand to make their own is a massive deal
Went diving and by clasp got stuck
I went diving in Peurto Rico. Wore my Titanium SMP. Afterwards, I sat on the beach for a while. When I went back to the hotel, I could not get my watch off. The clasp was filled with sand! Never had this problem with any of my Rollies. Took 2 days to shake the sand loose, then I rinsed out the rest of the sand for 30 minutes under the sink till it all came out. Wow!I always liked the omega clasp better than Rolex, but after this, I swear only to wear a Sub for diving.Bummer!
Crazy thought?
There are a few watches that keep singing to me, one of which is the 5235g. However, I still really love my 5712/1a (my first Patek, which has some meaning to me) and find my 5167ss to be extremely comfortable and versatile. With that in mind, and in keeping with the a smaller collection is better trend (for some, not all! --- and for what it's worth, I'm on that bandwagon as I just sold my JLC AMVOX5 and BP 50 Fathoms Aqua Lung edition, so I'm down to 4 watches): What are your thoughts about trading a 5712/1a and a 5167ss for a 5235g? There may be some $$ owed/received after the trade (?)... The other watches in the collection are a SDc and a Date Just (stainless, circa 2006), of which the latter really doesn't get much wrist time, but has sentimental value so it's a keeper. Appreciate your feedback.
New Zero!
Got my new Zero today! My AD got it for me in about month. It's a Q serial- OP 6834. She said they go like hotcakes, and also confirmed that Panerai will no longer use the ETA movement in the near future. Love it! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1411590706.017756.jpg
