BASELWORLD 2011 - New Model - Patek Philippe 5270 - Perpetual Chrono 5270G
(Press Release and Images: Patek Philippe SA)Patek Philippe Ref. 5270Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5270: a new complicated wristwatch with a rich 70-year heritage of tradition and innovationWhile Patek Philippe concentrated on the launch of new chronographs from November 2009 to the end of 2010, the emphasis is now on other complications. But to the delight of many watch lovers, the year of chronographs has not quite ended yet. One example is the new Ref. 5270, which for the first time combines the functionality of a perpetual calendar with the new classic chronograph caliber that is crafted entirely in-house and had its global debut in 2009.Seventy years ago, in 1941, Patek Philippe added chronographs with perpetual calendars to its range of regularly produced timepieces. Since then, they have ranked among the manufacture’s most popular Grand Complication wristwatches. Evolution of the Planet Ocean
Does any one think the PO will begin an evolution much like the Rolex Submariner? With it being a hit, I suspect Omega will just make marginal changes every few years. Or do you think it will market it like the Sub, with an upgraded Sea Dweller, and then a super upgraded Deepsea?I'm like my PO, but I am geting that urge to want a super Planet Ocean, and in two minds between getting the Liquid Metal, or wait a year until the new PO is released.Hope I make sense.

Dear TRF members - I love you and hate you! I have been on this forum daily for the last 2 years but never decided to participate - I have a lot of experience in the last few years on watch purchases and now have decided to participate and add my opinion good or bad! I used to be a usual watch person buying and being happy with a Rolex every 10 years or so until I started to be influenced by you bad boys - But I love it!From Rolex TT Sub blue that I loved for years to 16520 flip, 116520 flip, AP Royal Oak flip, Submariner flip, Rose Gold Skydweller flip, Pam 311 ouch that was costly flip, Patek 5711/1a blue dial flip, Rolex DJ11 flip, and so on in the last 2 years - flip, flip, flip....Finally in the last few weeks settled on Patek 5167a and 5205G and first on AD list for 40th Nautilus. Anyway I hope you enjoy some photos and I look forward to discussing Patek and other brands with you all. Don't know how to upload multiple photos so the following will have to do!NB will also post
Are we as a community too focused on value retention?
With what seems like about 1/3rd of the most recent threads being about whether X will hold its value, whether X will drop or increase in value, I've started to wonder as a community, have we become too hyper focused on value retention at the expense of our enjoyment of our watches, and other pieces we may like, but won't buy because we will take a bath on them.Plenty of things we enjoy in this world lose some (or all) of their value once enjoyed. Cars are a good example. Furniture, clothes, etc., all of that stuff practically plummets once used even one time. But we buy them because we enjoy (or need) them. And why should watches be any different? Why are we as a community seemingly so fearful of losing even a penny on what we pay for watch? Yes, I get that they are a luxury good, and that it's not a great feeling to lose money on something we've shelled out dearly for, but again, there's lots of luxuries where we spend money, enjoy thoroughly and have no residual value to show at the
