Philippe Cousteaus Rolex Sea-Dweller Sells for $183,750 at Antiquorum Auction
Antiquorum's fall auction in New York generated an impressive $3,679,437 in sales. The top lots included a Patek Philippe minute repeater, two Patek ref. 5004s, and Philippe Cousteau's Rolex “double-red” Sea-Dweller, ref. 1665. Let's take a look at the top 10 sellers. The top lot of the auction was this set of four Vacheron Constantin Metiers D'Art Masks timepieces. The set featured a pink gold case with Mexico mask, a white gold case with Gabon mask, a yellow gold case with a ritual Buddha Japan mask, and a platinum case with Papua New Guinea mask. This lot, number 223, sold for $603,750.This set of four Vacheron Constantin Metiers D'Art Masks was the top-selling lot. The next three lots are collector favorites from Patek Philipe. Lot 117 is a ref. 3939 minute repeater in white gold with what was described in the catalog as a possibly unique Breguet dial.” This watch was sold new in 2002, and at the auction, it brought $351,750. A second set of hands, and an
Jumbo 15202 vs 15400
Seems like the 15400 is gaining popularity amongst the community here from the postings we are seeing of new ownership of this piece and proclamations of love for it.The 15202 Jumbo on the other hand seems to be hiding in the background? Anyone getting or already got this beauty? I was comparing the two at the AP boutique and was encouraged to go for the Jumbo as its more classy and importantly more original if you may pit it that way to the first origins of the royal oak and the 39mm size is the best size for the oak. I wear big watches like panerai but when wearing the oak the 39mm seems perfect size for the oak while the 15400 seems a bit out of proportion like being large for fashion purposes only. What are your thoughts ?
Any thoughts on the....
Transocean Limited Edition Chrono, with the blue dial? Haven't seen it in person yet, but it looks rather nice in the 2013 chronolog.....
Changing Dial from Black to White
I really want a PP 5085 with a white dial. I just can't find one anywhere. So, I am considering changing the dial from black to white after I buy one.I have no idea where to start. Is it possible? Is it sensible? Is it costly? Should I just keep looking? Should I learn to like the black dial?Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.TIA
