Interview: Aldo Magada Reveals Zenith's New Number One Market, And Explains The El Primero's Role In Keeping The Brand Afloat
Aldo Magada, CEO of Zenith, was at the Royal Automobile Club in London to present the El Primero Chronomaster 1969 Hero Cup on Monday morning. A limited edition of 100 pieces, two of which will be gifted to competitors of the classic rallying competition, it cements the brand’s position in the world of vintage automobiles. We sat down with Mr. Magada to find out just how much the brand is driven by its icon. Arthur Touchot:Let’s start by looking back at 2015. Were you satisfied with the end-of-year results? Aldo Magada: Our numbers [this year] were actually in single-digit decline, mainly because of Hong Kong. As a place, it’s always been challenging for brands. It used to be our biggest market, but today Japan has overtaken it. Almost 75% of that market [Japan] is local, increasing steadily over the years, and is mainly buying El Primero watches. 1 OF 5 AT:For the second time in 12 months (after the Tour Auto Edition), Zenith is
New Pro Diver III strap and deployant
Woohoo, my new Pro Diver III rubber strap and deployant was just delivered for my Superocean. Here are two pictures from when I purchased it, at a presale event.Sizing on my Steelfish, love the micro adjustment in the clasp for added comfort. The Breitling Diver Pro III rubber strap was introduced in 2013 and marks the return to the raised hershey style lettering that made the original Diver Pro strap so iconic and popular. The new raised letter is different, however, and has the complete Breitling text on each side of the strap, with the last 4 letters LING being recessed rather than raised.Introduced at the same time with this strap was the new Blacksteel Deployant Buckle.Going to give a rubber strap a try after my reluctance on previous watches, the cost of entry on this piece was very low to test out. And I feel this will be a great combo for the beach in the future as I can take my bergeron tool with me to change from the bracelet.
TRADE POLL: 5726/1a and 5164a for 5960/1a plus cash v. VOTE NOW!!
I am contemplating trading my 5164a and 5726/1a for a 5960/1a (and cash to me). I have been offered a great deal so I'm not worried about that end. I'm just completely split on what to do. The 5164a is really not singing to me so I do want to flip that. I like the 5726/1a but think the 5960/1a will more than make up for that. I mean chrono, ac, steel, amazing insane different dial. My concern is the bracelet. Pictures don't make it look great but I am sure Patek makes a beautiful bracelet and that the subtleties and nuances of the craftsmanship come alive in person. So TRF, what would you do?I am also curious what TRF thinks about long term value of 5960/1a? Is this a winner?
Daytonas missing indices
Does anyone feel were getting a bum deal with the post ?88 Daytona?Since the 6265, the Daytona has had a few indices missing. Six to be precise, on both sides of the ?30?, ?10? & ?20.?Personally I feel the Daytona is more about style followed by exclusivity, rather than function. And while Im at it, wheres the flyback function?I fee the next generation of Daytona will have the flyback, but would they add the missing indices?Btw, Im not a Daytona basher - I do have DaytonasRegards
Is this rust on my 2017 Submariner?
A few days ago I noticed what seems to be a rusty coloured mark under the clasp of my bluesy. I tried to get rid of it with various cleaning products but with no success. I'm thinking 904L steel is virtually impossible to rust, let alone on a watch that is only 8 weeks old, so what on earth could this be? and how do I get rid of it? This sub is my only watch, I wear it 24/7. , sleep and shower with it on, work with it on, (hence why the gold is already looking beat up after only 8 weeks ) It's hard to describe, but in my job I wear air tight sleeves over my arms, so the watch is in an environment which contains a very high level of humidity and sweat, could this be the cause of this? As always your thoughts and help are much appreciated
