Christie’s 2010 Watch Sales Highest Ever at $91 Million
Christie's wrapped up a record-breaking year for fine timepieces, realizing $91.2 million in total sales C the highest annual total ever for the the global auction house. Patek Philippe dominated the results, capturing each of the year’s top 10 positions for wristwatch sales. In all, five Pateks sold for more than $1 million apiece. Look inside for images of the top sellers, and a list of Christie’s Top 10 for 2010. Christie’s achieved more world records in 2010 than any other auction house, and every sale saw a sell-through rate of more than 90 percent by value. The top watch of the year was a unique Patek Philippe ref. 1527 perpetual calendar chronograph manufactured in 1943 that achieved a record $5.7 million at Christie's Geneva sale.A Patek Philippe ref. 2523 “world time” manufactured in 1953 finished in second position. This is the larger 35.5mm version of the reference, and only 14 examples are known to have come to auction. This piece brought $2.7
The Vacheron Constantin Harmony Tourbillon Chronograph, With "Dragging" 45-Minute Chronogr
Vacheron Constantin's Harmony line drew praise after revealing the thinnest self-winding split-seconds mono-pusher chronograph a month ago. Then it drew more praise with its mono-pusher doctor's chronograph, which employed similar technical innovation on a more reserved scale. All together, this collection of new calibers took seven years of research and development, and you can bet that a decent chunk of that went to coupling the improved chronograph with an improved tourbillon.Vacheron's new Tourbillon Chronograph utilizes the same 42 mm cushion-shaped case as the other pieces of the Harmony collection. From a design perspective, it is difficult to successfully evoke a 1920's motif in a 21st-century watch, but the manufacture has done a good job in this respect. 1 OF 3 On the dial, Vacheron has captured a particular old-school legibility in a contemporary way. Bumble Bee... need some info
So, I've been following AP for some time now. I have recently looked at the AP ROO Bumble Bee and really like the look. Now, my wrists are a little small at sub 7. So when I went to the AP dealer to try it out, I had to get hornback strap basically to the last hole.... now this caused an issue with the metal deployant to be riding up one side of my wrist. The salesperson said that there is a shorter version of the strap - is this true? Also - what are the pro's and con's of the Bee? Is it really discontinued and is there a replacement soon?I was also thinking of a Panda on bracelet - that looked really nice and the bracelet just wraps my wrist so well.... cheaper too... thoughts on the current Panda 42mm vs the Bee?Looking to buy one and keep for a looong time. And what is there to know about these newer pushers? Are they coming down the 42mm line? I can't pull off the 44mm I don't think. THANKS!
First AP arrived and joining the club
First off, I'd like to thank DavidSW and the mod that rectify my posting yesterday. I got super excited and posted the FedEx update and accidentally included my tracking number. Someone actually joked that 11 others were redirecting it as we speak. I thought it was funny but DavidSW didn't and took action pretty quickly to take the post down before anything bad happened. Just never know and I appreciate what he did. I've done two deals with David and this just goes to show what a gentleman he is. Without further ado, on to the pictures to tell the story. It's been a crazy year of purchases, so I'm telling myself that this is IT for awhile. Enjoy the pictures as I will be enjoying my new 15400! Just awesome.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore ?'s
OKI need some help here....About to do it, I have the 233 sold just waiting on the fundswhich are going out overnight mail today.I am about to get into a Audemar Piguet Royal Oak Offshore.I am not going with my absolute first choice as I think I have found too good of a deal to pass up and in a recent interview AP made it clear there will be a new variation of the ROO coming out and implied the current ROO will remain... This gives me hope they will bring out the Charcoal dial I love in a SS model so this will get me into the ROO family and I can always upgrade later (isn't that what we all do in one way or another sooner or later anyway?)So....1) Does ANYONE have any idea as to what fair market value on a used AP ROO Black Face Rubber Clad is worth?2) What do you guys think of the ROO? What are your experiences and thoughts (please state if you have or have had one as well.)Thanks!!!Oh yes.... If you have/had one please let me know about what size wrist you have, if it was on a strap
