The following timepiece analysis post is by Chris Meisenzahl. He is a long-time watch enthusiast and daily Speedmaster Pro wearer. He blogs at The Pretense of Knowledge and can be followed on Twitter at twitterwatches-dealer/speedmaster.I remember several years ago I was part of a thread on one of the popular watch forums. I commented that it was too bad we weren't alive during the 40s-60s, what I had considered the "Golden Age" of mechanical watches. It seemed like back then, of course, all watches were mechanical, and most seemed quite affordable, even considering inflation. But another poster quickly set me right. He pointed out that were were living in the Golden Age of mechanical watches right now! After a few moments of consideration I realized he was absolutely correct.A strong argument could be made that we live in a Golden Age of mechanical watches now. We have the ultra-high-end brands such as MB&F, Patek, Lange, De Bethune, etc. We have independents such as Roger Smith,
Watching Watches
Watch spotting is a really silly hobby, but I cannot help it most of the time. Walking around at events with my eyes at wrist level, sometimes I impress myself by spotting watches. Naming the brand, the model from afar. Is this like bird watching? Probably not as primordial. I spend a good deal of my time scoping out the watches people wear, and the watches I see. I am ranking up points in my mind.My issue is whether I should judge people on the watches they wear. I don't do it indiscriminately, but often times I will make a judgment call. For example, you seem someone with an expensive Rolex. To me, this means they throw money at image, and have no ability to choose. I am not saying all Rolexes lack taste or style, but they require no thought. It is the instant watch people with money and know nothing about watches go to. What impresses me more is a nice watch that someone has to put thought into. No specific examples come to mind because it really depends on the budget and personali

Patek Nautilus choices - 5726a or 5980?
Currently being offered a great trade in price for a used 5980 blue dial for my 5726. I really like the bracelet on the 5980 but feel that the AC complication is more useful on the 5726. That said, you can't really find 5980s out there anymore so want to throw this up to see what the forum thinks?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1417409267.709259.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1417409303.811754.jpg
Accidentally lost of my PAM 587
Hello fellow friends. I'm reporting my stupidest act happened yesterday. I was in Korea for business and heading back to US, April 25th (Saturday). Around 8 am, safely arrived to Incheon Airport (ICN) and checking in (at first class desk). From here, the most miserable thing happened... While I was rushing to pull off my passport wallet where my Pam 587 pouch (Oakley watch pouch) was located... I think I may drop my pouch... I don't know... my buddy didn't hear anything and me neither... well it was pretty crowded so not sure even we can hear the drop sound... Once I pass the custom area, I was thinking to wear it for a second, but was tired so straight to the gate. 5 minute later, I was on board and couple of drinks and past out... Then about 5 hours before landing, I woke up and tried to wear my beloved Pam 587... but pouch is gone. Entire two lines of business class was empty so hard to imagine someone searched individual bag from other classes... or biz classes... I was trying hard
