What Is SIHH? A Major Watch Industry Show & What It Means
With all of the timepiece coverage flooding in from our trip to Geneva, Switzerland in January, I thought it might be a good idea to slow down for a moment and give you all some context pertaining to the whos, whats, whys, hows, and wheres of SIHH. Who puts on this show, why is it put on, how is it executed, and where are the attendees coming from? In short, what is SIHH?As a first-time attendee, I am going to give you my overall impressions and analysis of the event, while I attempt to explain the goings-on of this annual affair from an insider's perspective. There is much more to this showcase of luxury timepieces than just the watches, and while my opinions and experiences are mine alone, I hope they will shed some light on the inner workings of the luxury timepiece industry.SIHH stands for the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, and can briefly be summarized as an invite-only trade show put on by The Richemont Group in collaboration with a few independent luxury brands, whi
Checking Out the Mir Automatic
There are many articles on w&w about cool looking, well priced quartz watches that end with the same, perhaps repetitious sentiment: "I love it, but I would love it more if it were an automatic." Often the comments on these posts support that sentiment too. One such watch was the blissfully simple and stylish Mir. It was a pleasure to wear, a pleasure to look at, and if it had just had a beating heart, which frankly doesn't matter to a lot of consumers, it would have been hard to take off. Well, until now, there has not been a brand that has taken this call to heart. Not until the Mir Automatic.Staying nearly 100% true to the original design (it's a drop thicker at 11mm), the Mir Auto adds a Miyota 9015 and a domed Sapphire crystal into the mix, adding a lot more watch cred, without adding a lot more to the price. In fact, it comes out to a very affordable $259 (price without VAT), making it one of the best values out there for 9015, let alone one with a? sapphire crystal. This
Introducing: The Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar 26574 In Yellow Gold (Exclusive Live Pics &
The arrival of a new perpetual calendar Royal Oak from Audemars Piguet is something watch collectors don't take lightly. It was AP, after all, who was the very first manufacture to produce a perpetual wristwatch with leap year indicator all the way back in the 1950s. It was also Audemars Piguet, alongside only Patek Philippe, who would be producing perpetual calendar wristwatches of any kind for the better part of a half-century. The QP has always played an important role in AP's history, and while we showed you the new, updated 41 mm perpetuals a few weeks back, we are now here to show you the fifth model in the lineup – cased in yellow gold. 1 OF 14 All five AP Perpetual Calendar Royal Oaks. This new model – reference 26574BA – remains 41 mm in diameter, and joins the just announced steel and rose-gold examples, both offered with a blue or silver dial. The new yellow-gold example too features a blue tapisserie dial that we have all come to
PP World Time question
I'd love to pick up a World Time at some point, but I'm not crazy about the strap with the PP crest on the leather strap. I'm sure a lot of people love it, but it's not my style. I noticed their current website shows a model with a bracelet, but I'd prefer the smaller 37.5mm size. What are my options for either a bracelet or a strap without the crest on it, in regards to the previous model. Does my question make sense? Thanks in advance.
Submariner or Yachtmaster?
Hey everyone! After getting my Datejust II 116300 and GMT Master Coke 16170, I am planning my next piece.I am really digging the look/features of the Yachtmaster (not the Yachtmaster II, as it's out of my price range), but I also crave the Submariner. I love the look of the YM1 (Silver on silver version, but the blue looks amazing too), polished center links, dressy or casual. but also, how can anyone not love a good clean sub (date). The sub is obviously a must in anyones collection I feel, but just unsure which one to plan for. I plan on trying them both on, if I can find an AD that has them both. I bought my DJ2 brand new and obviously my GMT Coke used, but in amazing condition..so I am more than likely going pre owned at this point. For those that have both.which one do you prefer? Anyone else, please weight in!Thanks!
