New York Times On: Watch Advertising, Obsessive Watch Geeks
It is charming when you have someone who doesn't know a lot about watches do an article on the watch industry. That isn't to say that the journalist erred in their reporting, but rather that there is a degree of naivete to the tone regarding the topic of discussion, which is watch advertising. A lot of people correctly point out that there is a lot of consistency among watch advertising. You see the hands in the same orientation most of the time, and the date often has an "8" in it, or is at 31. The orientation of the hands is usually at about 10:10. There is nothing at all significant about this time, it is all aesthetics any symmetry. Two hands pointing up in a more or less symmetrical position just seems to look better. The article points out how watch ads of old basically had the hands in the opposite position pointing down. Who wears their ROO at the pool?
Hello... another question for the forum. New AP owner here... the 44 ROO in rose gold. Who here wears their Royal Oak Offshore to the pool? When I'm at a nice resort pool like in Miami or Vegas I like wearing a nice watch. My new AP watch would look badass poolside. However last year I took my white Panerai Laminor Marina 1950 to a few resort pools. I noticed after these trips that the anti-reflective coating somehow got permanently etched by the pool chemicals or minerals. Looks like water stains if you look at a certain angle... not very noticeable but I know they're there. I will likely need to have to have the crystal replaced at some point. Anyone have experience with this and their AP and anti-reflective coating? I'm thinking I can just rinse the watch off with bottled water and wipe down after getting out of the water each time??
Question for RG owners
I am in search of my next Patek. I am considering adding a RG piece to add variety to my small collection (specifically the 5980r and 5205r w/black face). So,do your RG pieces attract attention? Do you notice people noticing your watch? Do they make comments on it? Thanks.
