AP Millenary Carbon One Tourbillon Chronograph
Audemars Piguet’s new Millenary Carbon One is a technical wonder. The case is forged carbon, an ultra-light material developed by AP. The middle section of the case is created by placing a set of threaded carbon filaments inside a mold. The wire, measuring one millimeter in diameter, is itself composed of several thousand 7-micron carbon fibers held together by a resin wire. Placed end to end, these filaments are equivalent to 22.7 meters of carbon wire and 102.2 km of carbon fibers. The mold is then compressed at high temperature at pressures of over 300 kilos per square centimeter. This process results in a material composed of 76% carbon and 24% polyamide. The hardness of 626 Vickers can be compared with the 420 Vickers score for alacrite, another highly resistant material. The case middle and lugs are made all of a piece. The bezel, crown and pushers are in ceramics. The high-tech materials and manufacturing techniques result in a very light timepiece indeed: the Millenary Ca
Watch Complications: A Brief History Of Useful To Useless
It seems these days, that in order to get truly noticed in this crowded watch market, the watch companies have taken the complication pact to boldly go where no one has gone before. It seems that the one-upmanship of each new watch release keeps breaking the sound barrier of mechanical complications : coaxial; tourbillion; moon phase; fly backs; geographic world time; minute repeater; perpetual calendars; split second chronograph; jumping hours; spitting frogs; dancing Bears; Topo Gigio. I'm ready to throw in the towel and wave the white flag I'm finally finding these complications to be unreadable, overkill, distracting, and above all, really get in the way of what a watch is supposed to dotell you the time.Of course, I must take off my hat and bow down to the gods of mechanical watch design who had the vision and conceptual ability to dream these mechanical wonders up, and actually bring them to reality in a finished product. But, enough is enough already. In order to understand h
Help deciding on an AP Chrono
Gentlemen, I’m thinking of purchasing a new AP steel Chrono. I’ve been out of the AP brand for about 10 years. Had a couple of RO Chrono years ago. What all steel model would y’all recommend? I don’t care for straps or rubber. All steel Chrono with a nice looking dial (blue preferably) around 20k+-. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!
25th Anniversary of the ROO
Place your bets, what do we think AP will do, if anything, for the 25th anniversary of the ROO? Due to my poor imagination I can't see them doing anything other than a limited edition colourway with different materials etc... Would love to hear your thoughts!
PAM 171 and Ferrari 458 Spider
Im new to the forum thought Id quick intro with a pic. This might be played out (steering wheel / watch pics) but I dont think it getting old. With access so many great cars (I rent exotic cars in LA) and one of my favorite watches, its fun pairing them up. What do you think of this 458 Spider steering wheel shot? Any car/watch combos youd like to see?
