Hi all. So after consultation with this forum whether I should flip my hublot ice bang for a dsotm the overwhelming majority voted for the flip. This happened today! This watch is something else. I have had some nice pieces but this feels genuinely special. Omega have done a great job and I think this is an important watch for the brand. Achingly cool and contemporary and somewhat still true to the essence of the speedmaster. My only issue is the strap. I think it would elevate the watch futher on a leather strap. Omega 8500 Caliber putting some pressure on Rolex...
The specs on the new 8500 movement from Omega are pretty amazing....Double barrel design (DLC coated) with a 60 hour power reserveDual directional winding automaticFree sprung balanceFull balance bridge39 jewels202 partsCOSC certificationIt looks to me as though Omega bench marked the now 20 year old 3135 and just upped it everywhere that it could. What do you guys think? Should Rolex be worried? Should they fight back with an update or reworking of their base calibers or do you think that they just don't care?Personally, I was really shocked by the difference in the Omega 2500 caliber that was beating inside my Planet Ocean and the 3130 inside my Submariner (which should arrive early next week - the waiting is killing me). Do you remember the Omega with the 12 o'clock at 3 o'clock ? I think Isaw it in the late 60's or early 70's and I can't remember what it was called.I couldn't afford it then and had to make do with a $15 Seiko , which I stillhave and is keeping great time, I am getting all nostalgic now. What was it called and does anyone have pictures?
