Editors' Picks From The Upcoming Phillips Auctions: 'Start-Stop-Reset: 88 Epic Stainless Ste
You may have already read Ben Clymer's thoughts on the upcoming (May 14th) Phillips "Start-Stop-Reset" auction, which is populated with an almost improbably rich collection of 88 of some of the rarest, most interesting, and most desirable vintage stainless-steel chronographs out there (the offering's so spectacular it's a little unsettling). Phillips has another auction the day after, as well: "The Geneva Watch Auction: Three." The latter isn't themed but that doesn't mean it isn't also full of some really interesting and unusual timepieces, so we sat down here at HODINKEE to do a little window shopping and see which ones from each auction we'd pick if we had the kind of war chest we dream of having. Here's what caught our eye. The first scratch is the deepest...
Anyone recommend a way to gently polish out scratches on a gold clasp without being too harsh?I knew it would happen at some point but I'm absolutely gutted I caught my 5 day old bluesy clasp on the rivet on my jeans pocket!!!Any advice welcomed.Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
3186 Broken Hour Wheel Click Spring
I have an Explorer 2 16750 with a 3186 Movement. The hour wheel click spring recently broke so that when I move the crown to the 2nd position, the hour hand moves smoothly instead of clicking from hour to hour. It also does not line up correctly with the minute hand. After researching the boards, I see that this is a common, known issue by Rolex. What should I expect to pay for RSC to fix the spring, given that this is a know manufacturing problem? I prefer not to send my watches to RSC as I don't want any polishing or dial/hand replacement. Finally, will a new replacement spring fix the problem or should I expect this to remain a weakness throughout the life of the watch?
