The Nivrel Shark Sea Tourbillon Is A Rare Tourbillon In A Sea Of Glamour
We know that tourbillon watches are expensive. The complex little movements are at a premium based on the difficultly of manufacture and the prestige of owning one. The bar has been set pretty high with all variations of multi axis tourbillons and flying tourbillons that give a great view of the action. What ever happened to just the basic tourbillon? Because more tourbillon watches go for $50k and up, the proprietors of such luxuries feel the need to spruce them up with lots of gilding and fancy appointments to justify the prices. That is typically the case with most tourbillon watches that feel more a like novelty than like something worth wearing on a daily basis. But it doesn't need to be that way.The Nivrel "Sea" series has always been a diver's watch line that I have admired. I know of Nivrel's reputation for high quality construction and meticulous attention to detail (what else would you expect from a serious German watch maker?), and now I know that they have gently entered in
Would an AD sell me an empty watch box? If not where can I get one?
In case I lose my watch box where can I get another one? Here is the green box I am talking about.
Incoming: Speedmaster X-33 Skywalker.
Being the mechanical watch die-hard I am I never thought I would be getting one of these... But the opportunity came and I jumped on it.I believe it is a good complement to my Speedy collection of two Pros (Hello Houston and Apollo XV 35th) and a Bienne restored c1045 from 1976.Very interesting watch, functions well thought and incredibly lightweight.Enjoying it very much.
My Planet Ocean & My NATO's
Here is my pristine Omega Planet Ocean XL and of course it's in orange. I like loud, so the orange fits me. I've wanted to replace the orange rubber strap with a more comfortable NATO strap as I already have a couple on watches on them now. I couldn't decide right off which one I wanted for my PO, so I bought all three. I'm leaning toward the black with the single orange stripe. Just wanted to share with my PO friends and enthusiasts.
Question for you Speedmaster experts...
I have a vintage Speedmaster. I'm not sure exactly how old, because I long ago misplaced the serial number, but it's got to be 30 years old if it's a day. Anyhow, it needs a complete overhaul. Also, when running the chronograph function, one press of the top pusher actuates the stopwatch function, and a second press resets the second needle to 12:00. The bottom pusher essentially does nothing. This is no doubt a result of it being dropped by a family member some years ago.My questions--What is a reasonable fee for the overhaul?-What is wrong with the movement, and can it be easily repaired? Thanks for your help!
