Artya Makes Another Airport-Unfriendly Item: Watch Buckle With Hidden Knife
For 2014, Swiss watch maker Artya, under the leadership of Yvan Arpa, presents a hidden knife as an option on most Artya (and Black Belt) timepieces. Part James Bond, part "I bet you didn't know I could put a knife here!," these "ardillon-style" watch strap buckles come with a small folding blade. Why? Well that is really the question, isn't it. Artya is a brand that likes to exaggerate life and that is part of their charm. For Yvan, this watch is about personal safety, as well as covertly opening private letters with clean precision. The knife will fold out from the buckle "pocket-knife" style and will be perhaps an inch or so in length. It isn't exactly "hidden" if you look closely at the buckle, but is rather out of the way and located in a place most people would not expect. Artya has some suggested uses for this small blade, but what I am more curious about is what you all feel it might be good for when in a pinch. These days what everyone ponders is, "can I take it through airport
Daily Wear, Dual Time
Torn on this one and was hoping for input. Looking for a daily wear, dual time piece and was set to pull the trigger on the 5990. However, since I've recently acquired the 5905, I'm beginning to feel that the chrono function may be a bit redundant, especially since it's only a 60 minute timer which I find of little use for timing international air travel. Had a chance to try on the 5164, and found it to be remarkably comfortable. Although appearance wise I give the edge to the 5990, I am starting to warm up to the 5164 for it's versatility. The other choice was the BLRO in WG, which fills a void since I've regretfully sold my BLNR a couple of years ago. Given the 3 options- which would your personal choice be?If you have a personal favorite besides the 3 choices I've shared, I'm open to learning about it as well- but please remember to vote first out of the 3. Look forward to your reply!
Switzerland Patek Pricing?
Hi all,I may have business trip to Switzerland next month. How does Patek (and Rolex for that matter) pricing there compared to US pricing? Besides sales tax, enough of a delta to make a difference? Thanks,Lee

PAM 372 vs 183
Hi All,I'm having a difficult time trying to choose between a PAM 372 and a PAM 183. I am well aware that these are two very different watches and in different price points. I currently own a Rolex Deep Sea and an IWC Portuguese 7 Day (5001). I used to own a PAM 177 (ti) but sold it to fund the purchase of my IWC. Not soon after, I realized I need a Panerai to complete my humble collection.I think the 372 is a beautiful piece but not as versatile as the 183 due to it's size and style. I am not so concerned about the technical aspects of the watches but more on the aesthetics. That said, I would be grateful if you could share your thoughts on this matter.
